    Tonight was a good night. Then again, Gabe hardly ever had bad nights, so maybe that wasn't saying much. He was tall, good-looking, and charismatic, and if that wasn't already enough to make it easy for him to coast through life, he was an immortal vampire. He wasn't the type to think of himself in terms like that, but it would be a lie to say it hadn't made things at least a little easier for him.

    The bass of the music vibrated through his chest, the closest thing to a heartbeat he could get, and the liquor buzzing through his system made the lights feel like they were blending together. The smell of sweat and alcohol hung heavy in the air - the place was packed with bodies. Gabe honestly wouldn't be surprised to find another vampire here tonight, but he wasn't exactly seeking one out.

    No, he was more focused on the people with a pulse, in particular, the chick who looked like she'd had ten drinks too many who was grinding against his hips like she wanted to fuck in the middle of the dancefloor. Any other night, he really would've taken her up on that - well, maybe somewhere just slightly more private - but tonight he was more worried about feeding, first and foremost. It had been a few days, which was to say a few days more than Gabe was used to, and he was starting to feel antsy.

    Eventually, the song ended, and by then, Gabe was halfway to the backdoor, still practically attached at the hip to the girl he'd been dancing with. He stumbled over the short ledge when they got through the door, a side-effect of how much he'd had to drink, and out into the alley, returning the girl's laugh with a giggle of his own. Once he regained his balance, he had her pressed against the wall, their lips colliding for a few moments before he was pulling away, tilting her chin up to get her to focus on him.

    "I'm not gonna hurt you, right? This won't hurt, so you're not gonna be scared." He was too drunk, not focused enough for him to be as skilled at this as he usually was, but it didn't matter, considering how drunk she was too - she nodded in agreement almost immediately, looking a little dazed.

    It had been a long few nights, staking out this club. Keeping a constant vigilance as people piled in to drink and dance. It should have been nothing more than a fun night out for most of them, but something had begun to disrupt the fun atmosphere. Sure, clubbing wasn't the most safe of activities, but the strange attacks that had been plaguing the clientele were far beyond the norm. Women ending up hospitalized with general anemia, all while after spending a night out in the club? That drew attention. At least, it drew the attention of those who knew what to look for. People like Jaiden.

    Whether it had been one vampire overindulging, or whether the club was simply becoming a hotbed of vampire activity, it had shown up on the hunter's radar. And so the redhead sat at the bar, nursing a glass of sazerac as he took stock of the club. It only took a year or two to begin seeing the differences in humans and vampires. How they carried themselves, the way they moved effortlessly through a crowded room. Even the drunk ones managed to carry themselves with grace. Wasn't fair, really. But whatever, it made them stand out. And this kid stood out.

    Well, kid was probably the wrong word. He looked young, but immortal beings were generally much older than they appeared. But he did look young, only around as old as Jaiden himself. So kid he would be. Said kid was beginning to lead his dance partner away from the throng of dancers, arm around her waist as they walked. Jaiden drank down the last of his sazerac, slipping from the bar stool. Straightening out his jacket before moving to follow the couple out. Tightening the leather cuffs around his wrists. An extra layer of protection for where bites were most likely to happen. Ready to take out this new mark.

    The pair hadn't made it very far, the vamp having the poor girl pressed against the wall, beginning to hypnotize her to prevent her from making a scene. "Hard to be scared when someone's meddling in your head." Jaiden chimed in, drawing attention to himself. "Kind of lazy to go after the drunk and stupid, no? Aren't you freaks supposed to be apex predators?" Though this apex predator was drunk and stupid at the moment as well. Or he'd be approaching this much differently. But for now, he wanted the vampire's attention on him, and off the girl who couldn't defend herself.

    Gabe glanced up with a little shock when he heard someone speak to him, frowning when he saw the redhead standing there. Shit, he must've been drunker than he thought, if he hadn't heard this guy follow him out. "What? Who the fuck are you?" Gabe's response wasn't exactly witty or intelligent, but in his defense, well... again, he was wasted. He wasn't exactly quick to the draw right now.

    It only took him a moment to gather that this person was a human, as opposed to an asshole werewolf - he actually had had one come up to him once like that, rude motherfucker - but it didn't make him any less confused. He had to be a hunter, and he looked like one too, but - there were almost never hunters in New York, mainly because they ended up dead long before they got the chance to stir up trouble. The vampire population here was just too high, too organized. Shit, he hadn't run into a hunter since the 60's, and that encounter had been pretty... brief. Well, brief for the hunter. Gabe had been sort of brutal in the 60's. He liked to think he had grown as a person since then.

    "What's going on?" The girl spoke up in a confused voice, apparently having caught on to the fact something was wrong, but Gabe ignored her, more concerned with the stranger at the moment.

    "Yes, very eloquent." Jaiden teased, offering a saccharine smile. This vampire was pretty far gone, wasn't he? Or maybe he was always this dense. Wasn't as though he was going to get the chance to really find out. Some small part of him had been hoping that this might be the one, but no. The look was all wrong. He'd have to keep looking. Ah well, deal with this leech first. Jaiden reached into his coat, pulling out a stake. Sparing the woman a brief glance. "You should start paying more attention to who you walk out with. Might want to head back inside."

    Of course he didn't expect the vampire would just let her walk, but Jaiden wasn't exactly intending to give him a chance to debate. The hunter closed the distance between him and the vampire, forcing him back and off the girl. Whether she ran or not wasn't really his concern anymore, he'd done what he could to keep her safe. Now he had to focus on his mission. Even a drunk vampire was dangerous. And so he didn't let up, lashing out in an attempt to keep the vamp off balance. Would be fantastic if he could get the thing down to the ground.

    Gabe's eyes widened with new urgency when the stranger pulled out a stake, and he finally realized this guy meant business - shit. Shit! He didn't pay any attention to the girl when she ran back inside, understandably way more focused on stumbling back from the guy actively trying to kill him. What was he even doing here? Gabe was usually pretty careful about covering his tracks, so why him? Had the hunter just been staking the bar out?!

    Most days, Gabe's reflexes were pretty impeccable, but at the moment, it was taking him every ounce of concentration to dodge the stranger's advances. Fuck, he shouldn't've gotten so wasted, but then again, there were almost never hunters in New York. "Wait! You-" Gabe opened his mouth to try to reason with him, but his startled shouting cut off with a sharp intake of breath when the stake jabbed dangerously close to his chest, making him stumble back again. A step backwards, and then another step, except that time, his foot landed on something that wasn't the ground. When that something slipped out from under him, suddenly his feet weren't landing on anything, and he crashed to the pavement, all six foot five inches of him landing with a painful-sounding thud.

    Even as drunk as the vamp was, he was keeping one step ahead of Jaiden's attacks. Barely, but each thrust of the stake met nothing but air as the vampire quickly stepped back. But dodging was all he was able to do, steadily being pushed back by the hunter in an attempt to avoid being staked. Pressed further from the door or the end of the alley, away from any attempt at escape. And then, a stroke of luck, at least for Jaiden. The vampire misstepped, losing his balance, crashing hard to the ground as his feet fell out from under him. Jaiden was quick to capitalize on the opportunity.

    Jaiden knew he wasn't strong enough to hold down a vampire on his own, not even a drunk one. But incapacitating one of their arms would help correct that disadvantage. And so that was the first course of action. Moving quickly, Jaiden pressed a knee hard into the vampire's chest, keeping him flat on his back as he pinned the vampire's right hand. And made sure to keep it pinned with the stake, driving it through his hand and stuck into the cracks of the pavement. Driven into the ground. Shifting to keep the left pinned with his body weight, effectively rendering the vampire helpless. Unless he managed to throw Jaiden off with a body roll.

    The hunter took a moment to rest, breathing deep after the exertion of subduing the vampire. Running a hand up through his hair, turning green eyes down to the man beneath him. Smiling. "Well, that was fun." He went searching into his jacket again, taking out another stake. "I don't get to tussle with your kind very often. Generally need to be more sneaky about it."

    Gabe let out a grunt when the hunter pressed a knee into his chest, barely having a chance to realize what was happening before searing pain went through his right hand, temporarily blanking out everything else. The scream that wanted to emerge from his throat was badly contained, and came out sounding like a half-strangled cry. His immediate response was to grab at it, but he realized that by then, the hunter had shifted most of his weight to Gabe's left side, making that impossible - it didn't stop him from thrashing, though, panicked and desperate to get out from under the stranger about to kill him. Fuck, fuck, he was gonna kill him - Gabe didn't wanna die, he wasn't supposed to fucking die, ever.

    He wasn't getting much of anywhere with his attempts to throw the hunter off, but it didn't stop him trying - the way the hunter was just sitting there catching his breath while Gabe struggled, something about it made him feel like ice had dropped into his stomach. "Don't, don't - please, I don't fucking hurt anyone - I'm not a nobody, if you do this others are gonna care," he pleaded, half begging and half threatening. Being immortal, that meant Gabe had never exactly had to face the concept of mortality - he'd been alive over a hundred years, and he fully fucking intended to keep going until the sun went out. He didn't want to die. He didn't want to die.

    Jaiden couldn't help but scoff as the vampire insisted that he didn't hurt anyone. As if he hadn't been planning to drain that poor girl. "You can't exist as you are without hurting people." Maybe he didn't kill anyone, but that wasn't enough. There were plenty of people who never killed but were still punished. But a vampire couldn't change. Their very nature demanded that they continue to prey on others. There was no punishment for them. The only course of action was to end them. But his interest was piqued when the vampire claimed he was known. Perhaps that meant he had connections? "Not a nobody, hm?" He reached down and pressed his palm into the vampire's throat. Not lethal, vampires didn't breathe after all. But uncomfortable.

    "Well then, maybe you'd like to trade. See, I might be looking for a friend of yours. Bit of a large fuck, and I mean wide. Balding. Likes to dress in suits to show off his wealth. Wispy, nasally voice. Ring any bells?" It might have been a long shot, but anything would have helped at this point. "Been looking for a very long time. I know he's here in New York, but I can't seem to get a lock on him. So I could possibly be more inclined to be merciful if you could help me find him." Jaiden's smile stayed sweet and saccharine. "How does that sound to you-" But he wasn't going to get his answers tonight, the door to the club bursting open, a pair of bouncers emerging from inside. Jaiden sighed, annoyed. Should have just killed the damn vamp. "Gotta run. But I'll be in touch." He promised, patting the vampire condescendingly on the cheek. And then he was up and running, ignoring the call of the bouncers to stop.

    One chased after the fleeing hunter. The other came to kneel by Gabe's side. "Hey! Dude, are you alright?" Seeing the stake through his hand, the bouncer's went searching for his phone, fully intent on calling emergency aid.

    Gabe squirmed when the hunter pressed his hand down on his throat, jerking one last time in an effort to throw the other off before mostly giving up, pressing his head back into the pavement in a pointless attempt to get the pressure off his windpipe. It wasn't like a lack of air would affect him, but there were always leftover human instincts, and not being able to get enough oxygen still felt fucking unsettling. The hunter was talking to him now, at least, not getting ready to stab, and his fruitless struggling wasn't doing much besides making the throbbing ache in his hand worse.

    He listened with wide eyes, his gaze flicking back and forth between the hunter's face and the stake in his hand. Fat, balding, rich - honestly, that description could have been anyone, and it didn't ring any immediate bells in Gabe's head. He hadn't been lying about his connections, though - he probably could find him, if he looked hard enough. Something like that, helping a hunter track down another vampire, would probably result in Gabe getting killed, not to mention the fact that the hunter was probably lying about any "mercy", but Gabe wasn't thinking about any of that in the slightest. The only concern he had right now was getting the hunter off him and the thing that could kill him away from his chest. He'd been about to open his mouth to enthusiastically agree with the hunter's suggestion when he heard the club's back door swing open, his eyes finally snapping away from their lock on the redhead. He grimaced at the pat on his face, the action inspiring a flare of anger inside him even through the fear, and tilted his head up to watch the hunter's upside-down feet run off.

    His attention was snapped back to himself when the bouncer kneeling by him asked if he was okay. Oh, fuck. "I'm fine! Don't - don't call," he insisted quickly, glancing to his right and balking a little at the sight of his own hand impaled on a fucking piece of wood. He sucked in a breath before bring his left over to tug it out, biting down on his lip to muffle the cry of pain he wanted to let out, and threw the stake to the side. He sat up and turned back to the bouncer quickly, grabbing him roughly around the jaw for a moment to get his focus off the phone. "No, I'm fine!" He hid his right hand behind his back and waved the left one - the unharmed one - in front of the bouncer's face, like he was showing it to him. "It's fine, see? My hand's fine. I'm okay, you don't need to call anyone."

    Drunk as he'd been, the threat of death had been sufficient to sober Gabe up a little, and this time around he was a little more focused about his suggestions. It showed on the bouncer's face, at least - it had gone from concerned to just downright confused. "Are you - are you sure? I could've sworn-"

    "What are you talking about? I'm totally fine, he just knocked me to the ground," Gabe interrupted, and the bouncer seemed to reluctantly accept that, tucking the cellphone back in his pocket. The last thing he wanted was emergency services showing up - the last time it'd happened had been because he'd passed out drunk at a party, and, predictably, he'd been announced dead on the scene. He'd scared the absolute Christ out of a mortician. Now that the threat of police and EMTs swarming the area was dealt with, Gabe spared a glance behind him, but the hunter was gone. Shit, god fucking dammit. So much for his good night.

    ~~~
    The next night, Gabe was back at the same exact bar. It wasn't stupidity, and it wasn't an accident - he had to deal with what had happened the night before, and one surefire way of finding that hunter again was to use himself as bait. He needed their next encounter to be on his own terms, and when he was expecting it - he couldn't keep looking over his shoulder for the next fucking month.
    After last night's incident, he'd gone home and slept off the booze - well, after checking every goddamn corner of his apartment like a paranoid psycho. He wasn't sure why he had been so worried, really - Gabe really was fucking careful, and his apartment was a place he preferred to keep private. He never even invited anyone over unless he knew he could make them forget the street name. Still, the whole thing with that hunter had scared the shit out of him.
    Needless to say, he wasn't drinking tonight. That didn't mean he wasn't acting like it, though. Spending about half your life wasted made it pretty easy for Gabe to fake, and tonight, he was really making a spectacle of himself, working his way through the dancefloor - and the people on it - with slick efficiency. Thanks to the hunter, Gabe had gone hungry last night, and it sure as hell wasn't safe enough for him to sneak someone out back, so he'd adopted a different method of holding himself over. Half the people in this bar were so drunk, or so high, that they hardly even noticed themselves when Gabe's lovebites were harder than they should've been, let alone any of the people around them. It wasn't much at all, and definitely way fucking less than Gabe wanted, but it was enough to help take the edge off. Honestly, if tonight went well, he planned on getting his fill from that fucking redhead anyway - the redhead he carefully kept his eye out for, ready for anything.
    It took Jaiden far longer than he would have liked to lose his tail, the bouncer determined to catch the man after what he’d witnessed in the alleyway. But he was built for strength. An intimidating sight to be sure, but too large to follow Jaiden as the hunter slipped through a hole in a fence. The bouncer would need to waste time climbing over, or find another way around. It gave the redhead enough time and distance between them to hide, the bouncer losing track of him in the dark. Jaiden took a moment to let his adrenaline drain to acceptable levels. Well, that could have gone better. Could have gone a whole lot worse too. All in all, tonight probably broke about even. Course, he wasn’t going to be able to go back to the club right away, not with the bouncers looking for him. Not to mention that the vampire was likely long gone. Scurried off somewhere safe and out of reach. There was nothing for it, he’d just have to lay low for the night.
    But it was only the one night. Morning came and went, and the hunter found himself back at the club. It was surprising how unobservant people could be. Wear a hat, change your clothes, and it was almost like you were a different person. No one at the door gave him any issue, not having recognized him. The bartender was a different story. He’d spent the whole night out in front of her, she’d find him too familiar. So he wasn’t going to be able to settle down and watch from the sidelines this time. So Jaiden found himself thrust on to the dance floor. Weaving between bodies, feeling the thrum of music in his chest. He didn’t actual expect the vampire to come back to the club so quickly, not after coming so close to death the night before. But there was always a chance, and it was always worth it to take that chance. And in the event that the vampire didn’t return, or he didn’t come across any other vampires, he could start inquiring about finding them on his own. Someone must know something.
    So that was his plan for the night. Dance and watch those around him, periodically taking breaks along the fringes of the crowds to keep tabs on who was hanging around the bar, who was coming in the door, and the few groups taking up the lounge area. But as the night went on, Jaiden began to notice something alarming. Dancers, drunk or high and having fun, were beginning to show signs of being bit. Bloody necks, not enough to be overt but there all the same. A large number of individuals being fed on, seemingly completely unaware. His first thought was that of a large number of vampires, which was a dangerous situation and he should probably bounce until things were more favorable. But this made more sense if there was one vampire. Small feedings, less likely to draw attention from outside sources. He needed to find this vampire, and the best way to do that would be to watch from off the dance floor. Away from the dancers and with less chance of getting up close and personal before he was prepared. And so the hunter began to make his way off the dance floor, heading towards the lounge area.
    Gabe almost didn't notice him - almost. He was wearing different clothes, and the hat covered the ginger hair Gabe had been looking for, and for a second, his eyes almost slid right past the guy making his way off the dancefloor. It was the leather cuffs that made him stand out, the little wardrobe oddity that Gabe sure as hell wasn't going to forget, not after the night before, not after he'd been staring at them, staring at the stake the associated hands held, wondering if he was gonna die. The hunter's back was to Gabe, meaning he clearly hadn't noticed the vampire yet, and meaning Gabe definitely had the jump on him. Gabe wasn't sure whether it was anger or excited anticipation that surged through him when he saw the guy again.
    He weaved his way through the crowd quickly to catch up with the hunter - his height aiding him just a bit - and caught up with the redhead just before he got off the dancefloor, grabbing him from behind. It was less like Gabe was trying to drag him off, and more like he was fucking dirty dancing, his arms wrapped across the hunter's chest and his hips pressed up close while he leaned forward, lips close to his ear. "You don't wanna do that. Come dance with me, baby." If this hunter was worth anything, Gabe's hypnotic suggestion wasn't likely to truly work, but that wasn't the point. Gabe wasn't really aiming for it to work, he just wanted to fuck with the guy's head.
    Jaiden had nearly been off the floor when someone decided to invade his space, his forward momentum halted as long arms wrapped around his chest. Holding him in place as the figure pressed up against him, the overtly intimate nature of the act throwing him off balance with how completely unexpected it was. But it wasn’t like there hadn’t been other handsy people on the dance floor, albeit this one was rather ballsy in his approach. He wasn’t fully aware of the danger until he felt the suggestion begin to creep into his mind. Like velvet fingers running through his thoughts, and for the briefest of moments, the hunter relaxed. Slack in the vampire’s hold and willing to turn back to do as suggested and dance with him. And then instinct and the overwhelming understanding of just how wrong this situation was pulled him back out of it, snapped back into reality.
    That still left him in a vampire’s hold, somewhere he was not keen on staying. The arms around him kept the hunter from moving away or raising his arms to try and fight back properly. He needed to break the hold. If moving forward or back wasn’t an option, then he’d take the only one he had. The hunter dropped down, slipping free, and if this vampire wasn’t quick about moving or stopping him, he was going to end up with a hard elbow in his groin. Staying so low for too long was disadvantageous though, Jaiden moving to stand and face whoever it was who had snuck up behind him.
    Gabe grinned when he felt the hunter relax in his arms for a second, snorting out an amused giggle at the practical whiplash that went through the guy's demeanor when he snapped out of it. Gabe wasn't a bad guy, really, but he'd be lying if he said he didn't get a thrill out of shit like that - and after last night, Gabe was well within his rights to fuck with this hunter. Maybe 'fuck with' wasn't strong enough. He wanted to scare the absolute living shit out of him.
    Gabe was already stepping back with another laugh when the hunter slipped down and out of his arms, moving his hips out of the way of the elbow that came up. He didn't put any effort into trying to grab him again, instead just meeting the redhead's face with a shit-eating grin when he turned around. He couldn't exactly drag the hunter off through a crowd of people, but the other side of that was that the hunter couldn't whip out a wooden stake again, either. If he ran, Gabe would just follow him. They were gonna have to get away from the crowd at some point, anyway. "You said you'd be in touch," Gabe greeted, pulling a pouty face and bring his hand up to mime a telephone by his ear, the thumb and pinky stuck out in opposite directions. The way he was saying it, you'd think he was talking about a broken promise from a one-night-stand, and not a death threat.
    If it had been someone new, a vampire who was just making the rounds of the club and trying to win a meal, things might have been okay. But it wasn’t just any vampire. No, Jaiden was more than a bit taken aback to find himself face to face with the same one from yesterday. The one he’d had pinned and begging for his life. The one who knew what he was and who he’d thought would have stayed way the fuck away. And the asshole was so fucking smug about catching him off guard too, a sneer pulling over the hunter’s lips at his flippant attitude. “I didn’t expect you to actually stick around.” He’d expected to have a whole lot more time to plan this meeting out. Or at the very least, catch the vamp unaware. He’d now lost the element of surprise, and was at a severe disadvantage. Really, the only thing keeping him safe at the moment were the sheer number of witnesses nearby. And that would not last, could not last. Because while he might have been able to hold his own against the man last night, the vampire had been drunk and off his game. He was definitely more sober right now.
    So they were at an impasse. Jaiden couldn’t leave, and neither of them could attack the other. For as long as the music kept playing, there was a tense peace between them. Resting on a knife’s edge. “So, what’s your next move here? You don’t think it would have been better to wait outside?” He’d still have to wait, but this gave Jaiden time to plan. Time to think of a way out.
    Gabe just shrugged in response. "No snacks outside," he answered casually. He knew the hunter had probably noticed the fangmarks on a few of the clientele, assuming he'd been paying any attention. Gabe really hoped he had been, too, because part of why he'd fed like that had been out of petty spite. No one was going to push him out, or make him back down and hide, and if someone like this guy tried, well - Gabe had just showed exactly how much this club was his.
    "Besides, last call isn't until four am. That gives us time to talk before you get all stabby with the wood." Time to talk, and time for Gabe to get into the hunter's head. He genuinely preferred solutions that involved the least death possible, despite what he was sure the hunter thought. For one, he had no way of knowing whether this guy had friends who would come looking for him, and for two, he just... made it a point not to be a merciless monster anymore. Not after Benji.
    He grinned and patted the hunter's shoulder mock-amicably, nudging him to the lounge seats. "Go sit down, unless you wanna find out whether the bouncers recognize you after a reminder."
    Jaiden's eyes narrowed at the vampire's answer. That really was how all vampires saw humans, wasn't it? Just as food. A resource to be used. Or worse, as prey to chase and terrorize. "So, you never hurt anyone?" Of course that had been a lie when he'd said it the night before, but it just set further in his mind how necessary it was to eradicate them all, even if it was a lonely and dangerous undertaking. And this situation was dangerous, with the vampire currently holding all the cards. But it wouldn't end here. It couldn't end here. There was still too much he needed to do, too many questions he needed to find answers to. There was always a way out. He just needed to find it, and find it quick. In the meantime, he supposed he'd have to suffer the vampire's company a little longer.
    He couldn't quite keep himself from reacting as the man's hand came down on his shoulder in an act that was far too familiar and friendly for his liking, swatting it away with annoyance. But he was insisting that they sit and talk, with a soft threat of being thrown out of the club or worse if he didn't comply. With a resigned sigh, the hunter continued on his original path. The lounge area was a sparse group of circular tables, separated by high backed couches. Heavily coveted, normally one needed to reserve a table to have such a cushy seat. Jaiden slid in to sit, keeping near the edge on the left side. Assuring he was able to get up and away from the table in a moment's notice.
    The hunter took stock of what was around the table as he waited for the vampire to get situated, trying to spy something that might help in his escape. There was a fire exit nearby, so he had a quick exit if he could make it. The adjacent tables had a couple large parties, so if the vampire were to try anything there was a good chance someone would notice. And of course, the bar was a few feet away. A lot of pieces, he just needed to figure out how to fit them all together.
    Gabe snorted at Jaiden's response. "They don't look hurt to me," he pointed out. "None of them even noticed."
    He followed closely behind Jaiden to the booth, laughing and shaking his head when he saw the hunter perch on the edge of the seat. "Nuh-uh, scoot." He didn't wait for a response before pushing Jaiden back further into the booth, sliding onto the end seat himself. He raised a hand and waved to a waitress passing nearby, getting her attention, before holding up two fingers. She frowned at him, furrowing her eyebrows, and he responded by miming bullhorns, at which she snorted and rolled her eyes before nodding. It was clear they knew each other, to some degree.
    Once she'd walked off, Gabe returned his attention to the hunter, a wide grin coming across his face before he slung an arm across his shoulders, firm enough to be hard to keep him close, but casual enough to look friendly. "I'm not gonna hurt you unless you do something stupid, got it?" he promised, leaning forward to grab the glasses when the waitress returned, two redbull vodkas, sliding one to the hunter. He didn't really give a fuck what the redhead's drink of choice was - Gabe's was this one, so that's what they were having. Gabe had a high alcohol tolerance, but the hunter was smaller than him, and this was the kind of drink designed to fuck you up. "Drink. Why are you in New York?"
    Jaiden hissed as he was shoved none too gently, pressed further into the booth and away from an easy escape as the vampire took up position where he had been just a moment before. Fine, if he really wanted to sit on that side, Jaiden would just scoot further until he was perched on the right. Or rather, that had been the plan, but Gabe wasn't having any of it. Before the hunter could shift too much further away, a heavy arm wrapped around his shoulder and pulled him back in. Kept him locked firmly in place at his side. Gabe may have looked casual, friendly even, but anyone paying attention would be able to see just how tense and uncomfortable the hunter was in that moment, even with the assurance that he wouldn't be hurt. It was a wonder the waitress hadn't said anything when she returned, setting the two drinks down on the table.
    He ignored the one slid towards him, refusing the command to drink. Not comfortable in drinking down anything in this situation. Besides, it was vodka, and he didn't fuck with vodka. But he supposed the question of why he was in New York was a fair one. He'd already more or less let slip what he was after the night before. "I'm here looking for someone." He stated simply, keeping his focus on the vampire keeping him captive. "Otherwise I wouldn't be here. I'm under no delusion that I can rid New York of its infestation." Not by himself, anyway. Hell, probably not even with a full team, there were so many vampires here. It would take a massively coordinated effort to successfully take New York. And there would be catastrophic losses. It simply wasn't worth the effort. Not yet.
    Jaiden watched Gabe, waited until the man raised his glass to drink. And then he swung his arm in a short, sharp arc across, slamming a closed fist into the vampire's chest. Right above his heart. Had their been a stake in his hand, this whole thing would have been over and done with.. "No one would have even noticed." The adjacent tables were still deep in conversation, laughing and drinking. The waitress was busy serving others. No one was looking their way. "Hands off." He insisted, keeping his voice and gaze level and intense.
    Gabe flinched despite himself when Jaiden slammed a fist into his chest, his grip tightening around the glass, the hunter's point made all too clear. He scowled slightly, letting go reluctantly and shoving the hunter away from him a bit. If they weren't surrounded by people, Gabe would be ripping his fucking throat out, mercy be damned. "Fine." Gabe couldn't really get into his head if he was sitting across the table, but this hunter seemed vaguely unhinged, and Gabe was still a little afraid of him whether he wanted to admit it or not. Talking was better than nothing, at least. He still wanted to know what this guy's story was. "But if no one would've noticed, why not just do it?"
    Reluctant and bitter, Gabe let go of him, Jaiden unable to keep the smirk from his lips as he was all but shoved away. Well, that had worked better than expected. The hunter shifted slightly, keeping a small distance between him and the vampire. Still within reach, but much more comfortable now that he wasn't trapped. Relatively speaking. He was still stuck in the club until he could figure something out. Keep the vampire from following him out. Resting his elbows on the table, Jaiden made a bridge with his hands to place his chin. Watching Gabe closely. "Because you're not nobody. And I said I'd be inclined to show some mercy if you were willing to help me." He gave his shoulders a shrug. "Can't expect to learn anything if you're dead. Well, more dead."
    Jaiden allowed himself to lean back and relax into the plush cushion of the booth. "Like I said last night, I'm looking for one particular vampire. Portly, balding man." His lips twisted into a frown. "I don't know his name in particular, but he had a hand in the massacre of hunters over in Indiana a year or two back." Course, that hadn't been the first he'd come across this man's handiwork. Wasn't even really the reason he was out here looking for the asshole. Not that he didn't deserve to die for what happened, of course, but it wasn't what drove him to hunt so tirelessly.
