The room was alive, humming with interaction and conversation around her. Lord Bennington had dressed her in the finest silks, pale and dark blues adorning her porcelain skin. This was to be her introduction to his allies and subjects. He was nearby, recounting the tale of how he had saved her from that dreary, abandoned castle in the mountains. Her family had supposedly lived there once, before the winter snows became too troubling to travel through and then had built a new home in the south.

Lord Simon Bennington did not have a castle, but his home and estate were still quite large. He had professed over and over how he was an ally of her family, of her father, when he had come to ‘rescue’ her, but Eira had never felt as if she needed to be rescued. Not until Simon had told her that her father was dead and that the realm she was to inherit was in chaos. Still, she had not wanted to leave the castle in the mountainside and had protested and screamed for her protector as Simon and his guards escorted her out. She did not know if her companion simply did not hear her, or if he was away somewhere.

It had been a month since that day, and though Simon offered her honeyed smiles and sweet words, she still could not get the castle and her companion out of her mind. Simon had tried to take on the role of her savior when she was not sure she had needed saving at all. She had taken the time in his company to get a feel for all that had happened while she was away from her lands.

“You look somewhat grim, my darling. All of the people gathered are glad to see the heir to Norlund in good health.” Bennington commented, bringing Eira immediately out of her thoughts.

“I apologize, I am still adjusting to all this,” She lifted her eyes but the edges of her mouth did not turn upward. Eira knew he was expecting a smile, but it was difficult to conjure such an expression when she felt so lost in this world of courts and nobles.

A guard approached Bennington and she looked away, thankful for the break in the conversation. She could still hear the man though, despite his whispered words.

“A friend of the Ellswell family?” Bennington remarked to the news the guard gave. His brow furrowed but then he shrugged. “Let him in, escorted by guards. If the lady knows him, then perhaps the company of a friend might lift her mood.”

The last sentence was said loudly, which meant he wanted her to hear it. He wanted her to know that he had allowed the presence of someone who claimed to know her, as if such a small kindness was a magnanimous effort on his part. Her eyes stayed low as the guards approached with the man who claimed to know her. They only lifted once he knelt before her. Someone might have introduced him, but if they did, she did not hear the words or the name. Her gaze was too transfixed on the face of the man before her.

She would have known the eyes of her dragon anywhere.

“You? How---How are you here?” Eira remarked in a hushed tone, but her surprise was enough that the guards around them seemed to jostle and touch their hands to the hilts of their swords.

She waved them off. “He means me no harm,” She said, louder, and looked around at the lot of them before her eyes settled back on him. “Correct? You mean me no harm.” She prompted, hoping he would assert the same.

Food was a necessity, not even Ylrid the Protector could live without it, and for as well as he had done in his task of protecting Eira thus far he made the same weekly trip he always did. Had Svorna Ka’ath, or any of the Raven Hawks guild been around they would have reminded him that having a pattern made one vulnerable and an easy target. He had assassinated many such people on that principle, but it just so happened that he liked the comfort it gave to the woman he was charged with protecting. Etra'dragn was paying him enough to do keep watch, and in reality Ylrid felt this was a good cleansing for the soul.

A few deer down the gullet had been enough to satiate his hunger and when he returned his orange eyes scoured and searched for the fair maiden in the windows, she had watched him often, but there was nothing. Ylrid thought perhaps she had gone to sleep, then he saw the footprints to and from the castle in the dirt. His keen eyes saw hoof marks of horses, but there was no one in sight. He had lost her, well he thought as much and a quick scan of the castle after transforming confirmed the truth.

Normally a person might panic and freak out if they lost the one they were charged with protecting, but Ylrid kept a level head about himself. One of the many great things about him was that emotional extremes did not exsist, nor did fear for that matter. Even as an assassin he had not always been perfect on the first try and this was no different, he had a job to do, and he was going to do it. One thing was certain though, a big dragon spewing lightning all over was going to cause more problems, this would need a gentler form of appearance, a human form so to speak.

It had taken nearly a month of searching relentlessly, and then word came to him while in a pub. He overheard a boisterous man telling a story, "Lord Bennington killed a dragon and saved the heir to Norlund..." there was more, but that was all Ylrid had needed to hear before he polished off his tankard of ale and headed out the door. Killed him? Lord Bennington killed him? The urge to shapeshift back into his dragon form was strong, to go on a rampage full of murder and bloodshed, but cooler heads prevailed. Even in his human form he figured he could break in and knock some heads together if necessary, but for now the diplomatic approach would have to do. Ylrid needed to scout the area, check on Eira's condition, and formulate a more concrete plan for her escape and his rescue.

Dressed in a tunic which was just lighter than navy blue with dark lilac trim and belt, and silver trousers Ylrid made his way to the door of the estate. The two guards at the gate instantly looked at him suspiciously and held the hilts to their swords. Fools, if I wanted them dead they would be. "Halt, who goes there?" The one on the left asked in a snide voice.

Ylrid's lips curled upward for a moment. "Tell Lord Bennington that I am a friend of the house of Ellswell, Ylrid Lightningwhirl," he replied with a small bow of his head. From there he waited patiently to enter, playing the role of family friend wasn't too hard. He didn't have to be royalty, and not so low as a peasant, it was a nice blend of the two into a middle class, maybe a bit on the upper side of things. Soon a messenger came back and Ylrid was allowed to enter.

The estate was nice, nothing compared to the castle in Norlund he had once seen, but still the residence had its niceness. His orange eyes scanned around and took note of exits, or potential ones at the very least. Considering he had been pat down before entering Ylrid was glad to not habe his daggers on his person, but he was more than capable as it were.

He knelt upon seeing Eira, his right knee planted while his elbows rested upon his left thigh. His eyes never left her own, but he was aware of the alarm of the guards, "that is correct Eira, I mean you no harm," he replied quickly in a calm manner. That was all it took for the guards to give them some space, but some was the key word. Their eyes were still suspicous of Ylrid, he could tell, and he couldn,'t blame them even if he didn't like it.

In a more hushed tone he spoke, "we need a more private place to talk," he gently took her right hand and rose up from the ground, then took her into a small study just off to the left. He didn't expect their privacy to last long, and he would rely on information from her to possibly get some more. "It is I, Ylrid," he spoke as if she would know his name, then quieter he added, "the Protector." If she had any doubt about him he figured it would die there, though judging by her initial gaze she had clued into him immediately. "We need to get you free, tell me do you want it with or without bloodshed? I can do either one my lady, but I serve you for now." It wasn't always going to be this way, but bossing her around in this venue, if she had agreed to their affiliation, was a recipe for disaster.

"I know who you are," Eira said gently, lifting her eyes to meet his as they stood in small space off to the side. She could still see Bennington out of the corner of her eye, but his expression was more hopeful than suspicious. Eira realized she needed to play this situation a certain way, to lure Bennington into believing Ylrid was no threat to him. Bennington had gone on and on telling and retelling the story of how he had slayed the great dragon, so much so that Eira had started to worry it might be true.

She forced a joyous smile on her lips and pressed up onto the tips of her toes, flinging her arms around Ylrid like she was greeting an old friend. It was a facade, but her face was buried in his should and Bennington could not see it. "Play along, embrace me. Most of the people here are innocents and they don't deserve to be caught in the middle of Bennington's affairs." She said, her mouth close enough to his ear that she could whisper. It felt strange to hold him like this, in her mind he was still this grand thing. His body was firm and sturdy under her hands, and she wondered why he had not revealed this side of him before.

"We can tell him you are the son of one of my father's generals, a friend of the family. We can ask that he offer you lodging..." She said, thinking as quickly as she could. She released him from the hug, and stepped back, her chin lifting to meet his eyes again. There was more she needed to tell him but this was neither the time nor the place. Eira had long since assumed her father had died, but now the news had been confirmed. He had tried to re-take his realm, only to fall in battle. One of his trusted advisors had let her location slip to one of his men and that was how Bennington had discovered where the so-called "lost" princess was. Bennington wanted her for her connections to Norlund, though she was certain her youth and beauty did not deter him.

"Patience, please?" She asked. The dragon had been a comfort, but she realizes now she did not know him well and could not predict how he might behave in this situation.

Playing along with the embrace was not too hard for Ylrid to do, and it was genuine when he returned it. He just simply had not been used to embraces since he had been in dragon form for so long while protecting her that he had forgotten many customs. There was also the small fact that he had not been raised on embraces and sentimental moments for such things were primarily forbidden in the Raven Hawks guild.

As he listened to Eira speak he put on a happy face, smiling and looking relieved, not that it was too hard to do, but he had to make sure to tailor it toward Lord Bennington. Normally innocent casualities were not a large concern to him, but that was the past and he was going to be as respectful as he could of Eira's wishes. Before the embrace was released he spoke softly back, "I will be patient for now my lady, but if anyone harms you I will not hesitate to take drastic actions. My mission is to protect you afterall."

Slowly he released the embrace as Lord Bennington made his way over to where Ylrid and Eira were talking. In a show of respect Ylrid bowed his head low to the Lord, before raising his head and training his orange eyes on the man to gauge his present mood. The eyes of the man appeared hopeful and this provided Ylrid with the moment of opportunity he was hoping for. "I see you two appear to be catching up," Lord Bennigton said warmly in that honeysuckle voice that would have most women swooning over him.

"Yes indeed Lord Bennigton. I was actually wondering if I may have a moment of your time." Ylrid was going to use Eira's suggestion and play along as a way to keep a close eye on things.

"Of course," he appeared willing to comply with the request and placed his hands behind his back as they walked away from Eira a few paces.

"I was wondering if you would be willing to provide me lodging for a few days, perhaps even a week. I am the son of Almora'an a Captain of the Norlund Army, Eira and I were close friends in my youth and I would like some time to catch up with my friend." Ylrid expected certain parts of that story might not sit well with Lord Bennington but he was prepared if those questions came up as they did.

"Would any of your interest be romantic?" Lord Bennington asked with a small suspicion appearing in his eyes.

Ylrid smiled, "she is more like a sister to me my Lord, nothing more, I promise not to impede on your pursuit of her affection."

This did the trick and Lord Bennington nodded in affirmation. "My advisor Ashirik will come by later to show you to your place, one of my quarters across the courtyard."

Ylrid nodded and smiled warmly. "You are most gracious Lord Bennington." With that he bowed his head and went back to Eira to tell her the good news thus far.

They were close enough that Eira heard most of the conversation, especially the part where Bennington mentioned his romantic aspirations for Eira. He had made no secret of his intentions, though she had gently tried to dissuade him from his pursuits. He was the sort of man many women desired but there had never been any such spark for Eira. It also did not help that he was an unrepentant flirt, though it seemed he tried to curb that impulse around her. Still, it was easy for Eira to picture a future with such a man. He would have his conquests and she would have her misery. He would have the ability to make claims on her father's kingdom, now under the unlawful rule of one of her father's Dukes. That was the real reason Bennington wanted her.

"I heard..." She said simply when Ylrid returned to her. As he came close, she took his arm and led him out of the hall altogether. Now that Bennington was satisfied that her friend was just a friend, he might leave them alone. Eira led the two of them slowly out of the castle and into the gardens. Winter had made its turn into spring, the air was warm but crisp still. Once she was certain Bennington had sent no chaperones, she leaned her head on Ylrid's shoulder and her body released some of the tension it had been holding.

"My father is dead. A man who opposed me inheriting the rule over Norlund on my own now sits on his throne, but the realm itself is in chaos. Bennington assures me he has the money and men to retake Norlund, but..." It was complicated. The Duke, Lord Daniel Brendan, was now claiming that his own son was the correct heir to the throne. A bastard heir, conceived by Brendan's wife and the king after Eira's mother passed, who Brendan chose to raise as his own. Eira was nearly certain the entire plot was a farce, but in her mind, it did not matter. This son was younger than her and her father had always said her gender did not matter. She would be the one to take his place.

"I assume this new form is not actually new at all? Did my father ask you to keep this gift from me?" She lifted her head then and released his arm, turning so her eyes could meet his.

Comforting and consoling another person was foriegn to Ylrid, as her head lay on his shoulder he did his best to reassure her with an arm on her back for support. It was clear she had been stressed out and that seeing him brought her relief, he listened to her talk about the death if her father and the thoughts that Lord Bennington had for retaking Norlund. The question that came was of no surprise to him at all.

Ylrid took a deep breath of the fresh crisp air outside. He was relieved to find her, the journey to do so had been one filled with tireless days and nights. "Yes I have always had this ability, but your father did not ask me to hide it from you, that was of my own doing." He looked away for a moment, almost as if he were feeling guilty, "it made my job easier, to not be close to you but rather to maintain my distance. My job was to protect you, and I felt that if I had shifted and visited you inside I might have fallen in love and compromised everything."

He looked at her once more, locking eyes, "there is something about you that attracts me to you more than most. I am not sure what it is exactly, but you are different." Not wanting to continue the line of discussion he tried to shift it quickly, though if pressed he would. "He seems like a charming man, and money is one thing, but men must be trained and while I admittedly don't know him well I doubt disciplined soldiers are his priority. He embellishes, as you well know since he bragged about killing me." For a moment lightning arced across his arms as he calmed his anger back down. "I could fly us out of here, right now, but I understand if you want to play politics."

Eira tried to hide her surprise as he spoke so candidly about his attraction to her. It was not at all what she had expected, she had been almost certain that her father had been the one who wanted to keep the lines between them separated. “I...I...” She attempted to respond, but was unsure what to say. He seemed to sense that and had changed the subject to accommodate any embarrassment she might feel. Eira let her mind turn back to Lord Bennington and the situation she found herself in.

“He...would make a good ally, but a horrible husband.” It had not taken her long to figure this much out. “He enjoys being adored, so his stories are often more grand and lovely than any reality would be, but his army is well trained and rather large...and I...I really had nowhere else to go. My home is invaded by imposters and they would see me dead if I returned on my own.” There were still pockets of people who were loyal to her father, but Lord Brendan had spent most of the winter swaying her people and her father’s military to his side.

“I need to do this carefully. Perhaps find a bride for Bennington so I can maintain his help without giving myself to him.” She lifted her eyes to Ylrid’s and held his gaze for a moment. Dragon’s were still a rare thing in this world, a thing of magic and mystery far beyond people’s understanding. His offer to fly away was tempting but she could not leave her father’s legacy in tatters as it was now. “I apologize, I should have acknowledged your answer to my question. I...don’t know what to say, I expected you did not reveal yourself for your own safety or mine, but for fear of attraction...I am not sure what to say.”

Ylrid analyzed the choices and what it all meant as she spoke. If she married him she would have the army needed to take back Norlund, but her love life would be one of misery, there was little doubt about that. If she went the other way and said no she could find happiness in love, but the reclamation of her rightful place would be exponentially harder. This was far more complex than a simple assassination.

"It is fine, I know it can come as a bit of a shock, I myself am not sure what to make of all of it. I am not typically attracted to mere human woman regardless of their radiance, it is just not in my nature. Strong emotions for my kind are rare, it takes a special person, situation, or circumstance to drag them out, so you my lady are a rare breed. Now we just have to figure out what makes you so special."

He wished he had the answer to that question, but he couldn't put his finger on it. She had shown no magical capability of any kind, so he wondered if there was something supressed. "As for Lord Bennington I like the plan of finding a different wife, it is the best outcome for you at the moment. I believe there are other paths to retake your kingdom, but they will take time to find. I do have other bretheren, but our numbers are small and detecting them is not easy if they are in human form. I will help you in your plan though, and if I must I will befriend this Lord Bennington to find what he desires most." Ylrid flashed a thin smile as his right arm touched Eira's left shoulder.

“I am not special.” Eira replied, shaking her head. Her dark curls jostled with the motion, swinging as she made the movement. In this form she found him attractive, but they had spent months in the castle together and she held a fondness in her memory for the dragon that had protected her and been her sole companion for months. “Perhaps you just have a sympathy for damsels in distress, though that’s something I prefer not to be if I can help it.” She uttered the words with a slight smirk, trying to make light of the complicated situation they now found themselves in.

“He wants prominence. He’s the youngest son and all of his brother’s died in battles, they brought honor and he was never meant to be the one carrying the mantle of his family.” Eira might have actually liked the man if he was not so dedicated to his pursuit of her. “I think that may be why he embellishes, his father constantly compares him to the dead brother’s he will never live up to. Marrying me and retaking Norlund might have been enough to shut us father up.” He would need someone who was above his station, just as she was, and someone that enchanted him enough he would stop seeking validation in the beds of women who regarded him only for his sexual prowess.

“I had a friend, the lady Yvaine, who might fit the bill. Her father governed over the southern isles, and she was his last remaining heir. With you here, I might be able to write her and invite her to visit. She’s beautiful, smart and she could give him what he wants without a battle.” She mused. “You should...ensure you don’t let your own feelings show, he’s not likely to take well to them, but if you could get close to him you might be able to nudge him in her direction?”

"A nudge in the right direction I can do." Ylrid began his reply. "As for letting him know how I feel that won't be a problem, I have plenty of practice at hiding my true feelings." Ylrid left it at that, he would let her jump to her own conclusions, though he had hoped to imply their recent time together it was also a reference to his past as an assassin. He nodded his head slightly in approval of everything.

For now he was going to let slide her comments about not being special. There was no point in arguing over it right now, there would be time later since he did not intend on going anywhere anytime soon. His ears picked up on footsteps approaching and he turned his head to see a short man in flamboyant red garb approaching. A high pitched voice called out, "Ylrid, I am here to accompany you to your quarters."

Ylrid nodded and called over to the man who was still a few feet away. "Give me one small moment, and I will follow you." Then he turned to Eira and hugged her close, making sure to keep it friendly with his hands high. He turned his head toward her left ear and whispered, "if you ever want a ride just let me know. Goodnight, tomorrow we shall continue our talks." He waited briefly for anything else she might have to say, before leaving.

Eira sunk into the embrace. Everything she had valued in this life had been taken from her. Her mother, her father, her realm. It felt like Ylrid was the last piece of something familiar. Still, she knew they could not linger on the hug or the man in the red garb would tell Bennington something was amiss. She watched Ylrid go, but she remained in the gard, enjoying the peace and quiet for a moment.

“I find myself relieved that someone you think of fondly has found his way here.” The voice came from behind her and she turned to find Bennington there. He was not a bad man, but he had been misshaped by his father’s judgements of him. “Yes, I am relieved as well. I had assumed all parts of my homeland were lost to me.” She bowed her head slightly. “I will take my leave though, it’s been a very long day. I hope you sleep well, my lord.” Eira was kind enough to close the distance between them and give him a kiss on the cheek. It was not meant to lead him on, in all reality, she felt herself wish that his role and Ylrid’s were transposed. That Bennington would be her friend and ally and that Ylrid could then be...something else. Something more, perhaps.

It was not a lie, she was tired and by the time she made it to her room and into her night clothes, it was all she could do to pull the covers over her form. Eira slept soundly for the first night in weeks. No nightmares, no memories of family and friends who were now go. When she awoke in the morning she felt rested and ready, so she sought out the room they had put Ylrid in. It was about as far from her own room as possible, which she knew was intentional. She knocked softly, unsure what else to do. It felt wrong to just burst into the room.

The room was cozy, and Ylrid was rather impressed by Lord Bennington's hospitality. He could understand the reasons Eira had for not wanting to marry the man, but she had been clear that he was not all bad. To some degree Ylrid had been disappointed by this, he wanted a fight, he had been itching for one for quite some time now. Instead he was to play politician and matchmaker, things he was capable of at least.

Sleep came soon enough for the shapeshifter, his nearly naked form weary from a month of stress and travel. The very idea that he had been successful seemed almost surreal, and his body finally ended the resistance stage and entered into exhaustion. His dreams were peaceful, but there was something new in them, or rather someone, Eira, and this was something that was sure to puzzle Ylrid for some time.

Before he could talk to her in his dream there was a knock on his door. Quickly Ylrid pulled on some trousers, the same ones from the night before, and answered the door still naked from the waist up. As his eyes saw Eira he immediately blushed, but acted quickly and without a word he snatched her right wrist with his left hand and tugged her in before closing the door in a rush.

"Good morning Eira, I must say you caught me sleeping in a little bit." Still shaking the cobwebs out of his head he asked, "what can I do for you this morning?"

Eira's eyes widened as she was suddenly yanked into the room. If anyone happened to see them like this, they certainly would have assumed something strange was happening. Whatever thoughts had been in her mind seemed to slip out and she blinked a moment to try to get her footing again.

"I wanted to see how you faired, and I thought it might be important to talk about things. Our conversation last night, you mentioned that attraction and I..." Now as the words came out of her mouth they felt awkward, but his noted attraction had made her wonder. "There were rumors about my mother, that she was a witch and that my father should not have married a commoner. I just, I thought about what you said and I couldn't help but wonder if maybe that was part of what was different about me." It was the most plausible theory she could think of. Eira did not think there was anything special about her, but her mother had definitely been the special sort.

"I plan to write my friend today, but we'll have a week or two in the interim before she arrives, if she chooses to come." It would be easy to put the plans into motion, she just hoped that Lady Yvaine really did make a more attractive partner to Lord Bennington.

"Did you sleep well? Do you often sleep in human form?"

Given that he was shirtless Ylrid had expected things to be a but more awkward than they were on her end, and yet somehow she kept her cool. It was a testament to Eira's ability to focus on the task at hand and more important matters. He had noticed the pause in her conversation when she talked about the attraction and then the stories of her mother. To say the least he wasn't surprised, and he showed none.

Of course he didn't exactly know her mother, nor her father all that well so her specific case was lost to him, but either way he smelled an opportunity to attempt to help her find out what she was capable of. "Those are some interesting things to note my lady. I did sleep well, hard, though my dreams were..." he drifted off, forgetting his words entirely, something quite out of character for Ylrid to do. Then all of the sudden he picked back up, "and it all depends as to the situation for the form I sleep in. Both can achieve excellent rest, but this form uses more energy if I use my magic as opposed to when I am in my dragon form."

Ylrid grabbed a green tunic from his bag and tossed it over his head. "I have an idea, you go write your letter while I get some breakfast, and then I need you to meet me in the forest just south of Lord Bennington's estate. Give me about two hours and I will have an idea for how we start to find out how special you are."

She did her best to keep her eyes on his face, but she found her gaze wandering downward. Apparently, the attraction between them was mutual, but Eira worried it would muddy the waters too much if she acted on it. Besides, his whole task was protecting her and engaging in a relationship of any sort would probably put them both in unneeded danger.

"Okay, I will see you soon then." Eira agreed, turning to leave the room. She looked back once before she exited, but she said nothing more. Once she was back in her room, she set about the task of writing the letter to Lady Yvaine. It was a simple thing, she implored her friend to come visit, spoke about how handsome and kind Lord Bennington was. He had been amiable to Ylrid, so she did not think he would take issue with another friend spending time here. Once that was finished, she changed from her the gown she had been wearing into something more suited for the woods, pants and tunic of her own. Many thought that she should be dressed in gowns at all times, but Eira's father had always let her train in clothing that was suited to such tasks. When Bennington had offered his tailor, she had ordered two sets of clothes she could move in, for situations such as this one. She braided her long dark hair to one side, wondering what Ylrid would think of her outfit.

Bennington, for the most part, did not concern himself with her daily tasks so long as she was present at any parties or events he had on his estate. Eira was suddenly grateful for that. She walked to the woods, perhaps a bit early for the timeline Ylrid had suggested, but she enjoyed the crisp morning air.

Surprisingly the breakfast hall was relatively quiet and unoccupied. Ylrid had thought for sure he would run into Lord Bennington that morning, but from a conversation he overhead the good Lord had left early to make a business adventure to a nearby area, he hadn't heard exactly where, but by the sound of things he was going to be gone all day. That was perfect for Ylrid and his plans since he had little to worry about in terms of being interrupted by the jealous pursuer. Of course he had hoped that he had taken care of Lord Bennington's jealousy for the time being, but some things were hard to predict and the jealousy of man was one of those things.

Once the morning meal was over, he headed out to the location he had previously spoken of and began to prepare the area. The hard part was not knowing what Eira's powers were, so he was unsure of whether there would be fires to put out, which was his primary concern. The only other issue he was wary of was the fact that if she could teleport landing in a tree and splicing her body would have drastic consequences. It was why so few teleporters lasted past training, and why some more powerful mages suppressed the ability in their pupils. There was a small clearing where he was, and as Ylrid was moving some branches and grass to make a spot with nothing but dirt he heard someone approach.

Seeing Eira approach he let out a small chuckle, not because she looked funny, but because she had come dressed similar to himself. He clapped a few times to applaud her preparation. "Glad to see you came dressed like a warrior, prepared to do battle. Though honestly if we do battle today I would be surprised, though you may end up dirty so that was an excellent choice overall." Ylrid pulled the last few tall blades of grass and point to the spot, "stand here, and face that way," he pointed to the trees farthest away from them to the west. As he waited for her to move into the spot, not figuring she would question his methods, he spoke some more. "You may find that my methods are a bit.... rough at times, even harsh. While training my goal is for you to learn, I am not to be your friend, those kinds of emotions will get in the way. After and before training we can be chum chum, but during it is strictly business, am I clear my Lady?" As the speech had progressed his tone had grown serious. He was going to start off soft, but things were going to get progressively harder. The plan being to have her focus her energy on the inside, see if any element of any kind spoke to her. After some time if no progress was shown he was going to make her angry, he found that emotion to be most one of the most useful with self defense being the other. If it came to it he would come close to threatening her life, even going so far as to strike her with lightning if necessary.

Eira arched a brow at his praise. She honestly almost wondered if he was being sarcastic, but overall it seemed genuine so she did not put up too much of a huff.

"My father trained me much like he would have a male heir. I learned how to use a bow and arrow, daggers, a sword...even my hands if that was the only option." She explained. Eira realized that though there was some connection they shared, they actually knew very little about one another. This might not have been the best avenue to acquaint themselves, but at least she could try to explain that she was no ordinary princess who had spent her time doing things like embroidery. Her father had expected her to be a competent leader and Eira had not shied away from that.

She stood as expected, facing the direction he had told her to.

"I have no fear of rough treatment, do what you must." She smirked and little and she knew she should have let it go at agreeing to what he said, but Eira could not help herself. "Let's remember, you were the one who confessed you feared you would fall in love with me, so as long as you can keep yourself in check, I am certain that I will be able to. Now, what do I need to do?"

As Eira threw his words back at him Ylrid smirked just a little bit. It was true of course that he had confessed the fear of falling in love with her along with his strong attraction to her. Then as she had pointed out, she did not fear rough treatment, and he was to do as he must. It was a free invitation to do what he felt would be necessary.

"Well normally I would take things slow and have you focus on a natural element internally, see what calls to you, but if you want me to play rough, then you must not move from that circle of dirt and defend yourself from my attacks." There was a purpose for all of it of course that he was about to explain. "If you move and run, your body will just go into flight mode, I need it, you need it to go into fight mode instead. If you truly have magic flowing inside of you it will come out to your defense, it will not let you perish and die if avoidable."

There was no warning to come next as a bolt of lightning flashed toward Eira from Ylrid's right hand. The arc was a magnificent purple, vibrant and sharp, as the tip of the bolt headed straight for Eira's torso. While he did not tell her Ylrid would be sure to take enough of an edge off his powers to not kill her should this all fail miserably. Of course if it all did go bad she would be in incredible pain and it would be a shocking experience. He sent another bolt right after the first, regardless of what happened, and then a spark ball the size of a small rock, similar to a fireball, was hurtled her way.

She did not avoid the first bolt. It hit her in the stomach and the world seemed to go fuzzy and stiff as the electricity coursed through her. Eira had no time to consider that she might have been too confident in her abilities, the feeling was searing and all-consuming as the voltage worked its way through her. The pain came immediately after, a suddenly and sharp ache through her suddenly tensed muscles. She had no time to remark on it though, her blue eyes caught sight of his next blow.

The urge to run or dodge hit her hard, but Eira grit her teeth and forced herself not to move from the place where she stood. The ball hurtled towards her and Eira straightened her back, her chin held high, and tried to prepare herself for the second blow.

    But it did not come...

Her arms went slightly to her sides, as just as the lightning came within a few feet of her, a crystal-like shield seemed to form in front of her. It was concave and the lightning collided with it and caused the shield to crack and shatter, falling at Eira's feet. Her breaths came out heavy, and it almost seemed as if they were puffs of white smoke as they escaped her lips and floated up into the air. She looked at Ylrid, her eyes bright with shock and she bent down to touch one of the shards on the ground.

    "It's ice..."

He saw it too, the shield of ice formed to stop the ball of lightning he had sent her way. It had been weak seeing as to how it shattered upon impact, but it had also done the trick in forcing an ability out. This was both encouraging and discouraging at the same time, he had never had a pupil, just given advice to a few people along the way, so her success was a wonderful thing.

It's ice... he replayed it over in his head as he saw something white come from her nostrils. It was one of two things, a puff of warm air due to the frost or white smoke. The first was less problematic, the second more so, in terms of attraction that was. Either way he still had a job to do. "Yes, indeed it is, now we shall see what else you can do with it."

Ylrid's eyes closed for a moment and when they reopened his pupils had changed oh so slightly. Still a dark orange color there was a sharpness to him and then his form began to shift. His head expanded, as did his body, and scales popped up, a grey purple color in nature, and large magnificent wings. He roared mightily into the sky as he sent a telepathic communication toward Eira, his voice nearly the same, except more gruffness. "Time for a true test," and his wings lifted him off the ground to the tops of the trees.

Ylrid opened his mouth and a volley of lightning bolts all hailed downward, in order to withstand this attack she was going to need a large wall or a transformation into something larger, much larger.
