They'd all received the message. It didn't matter where they were- whether incarcerated in maximum security prison, or out on some nefarious caper. Whether they had formulated good intentions to turn their lives around, or they had deemed the path they were already on was the one which would define them, the message would come to them anyway. To their phones, their laptops. Popping up on a television screen or a flash drive delivered into their hands by a silent courier.

    They'd all received it.

The message, of course, hadn't been exactly the same for each of them, for they were, despite a few deep similarities, very different people. The promise, the carrot on the end of the stick, had been unique to each. Time off from a sentence. Forgiveness in the eyes of the law for some unconscionable offense. Resources. Information.

Whatever it was, it was what they needed. What they wanted. What they hungered for.

    Money. Revenge. Freedom. Justice. Anything.

Not everyone who got the offer took it, of course. The sort of people being dealt with here... they weren't often the type who chose to work together, to put aside personal agendas, even for a time, to accomplish another's goals.

But there were those who did, and those who did knew what they were getting into.

    More or less.

For when Alexander Joseph Luthor offered you whatever you wanted most- without even asking what it was, for God's sake, simply knowing it- you knew you would be asked to do bloody things.

Then again... if the work wasn't bloody, Lex Luthor wouldn't have approached you about doing it, would he?

Calls and meetings were held. Details were hammered out.

A small, select team of exceptional individuals, to serve as Lex Luthor's personal strike force.

All for the greater good, Luthor was insistent in saying.

As if that part mattered to the murderers, terrorists, assassins and thieves he appealed to.

"And the pay..." Luthor had said to each one of them personally. with the same politician's wink. "...it's almost as good as the accommodations."

And there, he had not lied.

A private island in the Pacific ocean. On no maps, uncharted and hidden. Beautiful, exotic, heady in it's sensuality.

Yet as dangerous as the people assigned to live there, work from there.

For it was every bit a modern day pirate's fortress, for all around were radar scramblers, mechanical defenses, and means of egress for the team- jets, boats, all armed to the teeth. Lex Luthor does not play at half-measures, and he has made this hidden island the perfect place for a clandestine black ops team of super-criminals to work from.

The fact that it was a tropical island with a gorgeously appointed mansion at it's center was just a bonus.

The giant set one booted foot on the Spanish brick driveway of the mansion and set his jaw.

"Opulence." Bane said disdainfully, slowly removing his sunglasses with a huge, scar-riddled hand. Sweat trickled down the back of his thickly muscled neck, as he knelt smoothly to pick up his duffel bag and headed down towards the front door. He didn't doubt that the place was well-defended, but Lex Luthor couldn't just help and make his fortress a pleasure palace as well.

Bane was dressed as casually as ever dressed- a tight heather-gray t-shirt straining to control his muscles, and a pair of camo cargo pants tucked into high combat boots. It would be wrong to say he looked normal- at nearly seven feet tall and well above three hundred pounds, he certainly appeared to be a dangerous man, but the only hint he wasn't just a pro wrestler on vacation or a special forces operative on R & R were the shining chrome implants on the back of his skull, right below his highly shaven hairline.

Of course anyone familiar with the man knew just what those were.

And knew what was most likely making that light, liquid-tank tinkling noise from his duffel bag.

Annoyed at the pretension of his new home- but then, Bane was usually annoyed at something- he strode forward to the front door and stepped into the comfortable air-conditioned air of the huge stone foyer, wondering if any of his new... teammates... were already here.

    And who they would be.

Word was that she was one of the first Luthor had reached out to – that his base of operations had meant she’d been on the top of his list of potential candidates.

Knowing a bit about the man that had been in contact with her, Pamela Isley knew better.

The redheaded woman wasn’t one for men’s sweet talk, empty promises, and flattery – she hadn’t been in a very long time. Not since being that soft and naïve had almost gotten her killed.

But she’d overcome – she’d become stronger, a more beautiful, graceful, loving version of herself.

    She’d become Poison Ivy instead.

And now the woman stood on an island, the air temperate and warm, sun trickling through the overhang of the jungle trees above, bouncing off green, supple skin.

Ivy was alone – she was at peace, the temperate of the island perfect for her, and for each being living on it. For her children.

The woman’s outfit would have been considered laughable to anyone who didn’t know who she was – then again, so would the green pigment of her skin. Being alone meant she could relax and being in the forest meant she could be herself – the rich coloring a visual cue to remind others, man and animal alike, to stay away.

But her clothing? The scarlet haired woman wore layers – the bottom layer comprised of a bustier and panty duo, the material made entirely of leaves, protection from man and nature alike, a small gift from her beloveds. The plants looked out for her as she did them. Those underclothes were hidden from view – just a touch of green peeking out over the neckline of a simple black tea dress, printed with soft pink roses.

The woman hadn’t bothered with shoes.

Leaning against the trunk of a particularly thick palm, her head rested back against it and the scarlet locks of her hair curling around her face, framing it.

But she was happy to be here – happy to have been first, to acquaint herself with the life on the island before whatever crew Luthor had wrangled together would arrive and destroy this glorious peace and quiet she’d grown accustomed to.

And judging by the disquieting of her darlings, the rustling of the leaves, it seemed that the first person outside of herself had arrived.

Leaning forward for a moment, only after pressing a soft kiss to the wooded trunk, surrounded with a new strand of green protection, Ivy stood herself up and moved quietly back towards the large house. With each step of her slender feet, her skin faded from its green shade, revealing pale, almost alabaster skin – high cheekbones, and nose, cheeks, and chest splattered with freckles.

She supposed this would become her home for the next bit of time.

    Until they were finished.

Stepping into a glorious sunroom at the back of the building, her own small bag already settled in a room upstairs, Ivy’s feet padded across the tiled floor quietly, hearing the closing of that heavy door at the front of the house, and settling herself on a chair at the bar of the kitchen’s breakfast nook, leaning one elbow down, and resting her head in her hand.

Ready and waiting to meet whoever would come.

Snart didn't intend on ever working for Luthor again after a short stint as his head of security back in Metropolis. Sure the pay was great, but Luthor had secrets that had secrets and those kind of secrets just weren't worth dying for.

Looking at the 6'2 individual stepping off of one of Luthor's yachts, dressed in a Hawaiian shirt and khaki cargo shorts; you'd be hard pressed to figure him to be the cool master thief Captain Cold. This was definitely not his preferred element, but unlike Mister Freeze, Leonard Snart did not have to maintain a frozen body temp.

He collected his duffle bag and strode to the mansion's front door. This was the kind of place he could really get used to living, provided he had a room to himself that he could keep as cool as he liked. Luthor had promised him a lot of money, but Snart agreed to accept only half the amount and asked his new employer to use the other half to create a shelter for abused children. Somewhere safe kids could stay while waiting for adoption; a place where siblings didn't get separated, a place like he had dreamed of running to when his old man would beat him and his sister senseless. Snart stopped that train of thought. Focus on the now.

He shifted his weight as he stood at the front doors and knocked loudly. He wondered who this new team was and what it was they were all expected to do. He hoped there were at least some prospects to help him take his mind off of the teases he was always finding so distracting like Sarah Lance and Iris West. Taking a deep breath, he waited for the welcoming committee.

In the distance was the soft growing sound of chopper blades cutting through the air. Lights flashed in various rhythms across the helicopter as it moved with ease through the air several hundred feet above the waters. The shoreline of the island coming into view and the helicopter veered slightly to the right heading towards the massive mansion that seemed to stick out like a sore thumb on the large jungle covered island.

Inside the chopper Jade Nguyen sat wedged between two massive armed guards. Across from her sat three more all holding their automatic weapons upright. Jade shifted in her seat as much as the petite Asian woman could do. Her hands stayed between her legs handcuffed tightly to the floor of the helicopter. Twisting her wrists a little she felt the tightness of the restraints rubbing raw on the skin. Just a few more minutes.. Jade thought to herself. As she had calculated all of her moves knowing these guards were drone less wonders good at following orders at best.

"300 meters enroute" said a sharp crackled voice over the intercom as the pilot of the helicopter headed towards the opening landing. The aircraft was now in view of the mansion and anyone inside that was looking out of the south windows.

Looking around Jade waited just a few more seconds to make her move. Given her hands were not usable it left her feet and legs. Slowly she leaned forward gaining more movement as she leaned into the handcuff chains. Suddenly she slid out from between the two guards on either side. Her right foot shot out as she pivoted on the ground. Her heel connected squarely with the jaw of the guard opposite her.

Her foot slid off to the side of his head and used her force to push his head into the guard next to him. The connection of their heads and helmets together gave Jade the momentum needed to push off and slam her foot into the final guard opposite her.

Spinning around she used her other feet to serve two swift kicks to heads of the guards that had been on either side of her. Twisting her wrists and hands she worked the chain mercilessly against the bolt holding it to the floor of the helicopter.

The chain snapped finally freeing Cheshire for the first time in several years from handcuffs. While they dangled from her wrists she would deal with getting them off later.

The commotion in the chopper had been so much that the pilot had started to swerve in the air. "MAYDAY! MAYDAY! the package is loose!" The pilot barked into his headset but it was pointless. Luthor knew all those on that helicopter were dispensable. He had figured none would have made it out alive either...except Cheshire.

Jade ensured all the guards had been knocked unconcious she spotted the small green duffel bag pushed against the wall of the chopper with her sai laying on top. She moved in lightning quick speed and while the pilot certainly made a valiant effort in both trying to control the chopper and pull out his gun he was no match for the cat like quickness of Cheshire. After opening her bag she found a few of her poison dipped nails and a few other weapons. Taking out a shuriken star with its points also dipped in poisons she aimed it towards the pilot and threw it.

The spiked blade spun through the air bending slightly around the pilots chair as it sliced into the neck of the pilot. Blood splattered out across the inside of the domed glass of the chopper as he screamed in pain. The chopper had now started to go into a tailspin as his body slumped forward pushing the controls all over the place.

Cheshire grabbed a nearby parachute which had most likely been designated for her. There was only 1 and there had been 6 men in the helicopter. Jade knew Luthor had planned and knew how everything was going to go down.

Grabbing her bag and zipping it up the Asian woman slid her sword into the back hilt strap on her back. Slipping the parachute bag on she pushed open the door of the helicopter. Smoke was now billowing out as the helicopter was headed towards a thicket of trees.

Cheshire jumped out from the door and pushed her body forward trying to get away from the smoking wreckage that was about to take the 6 lives of the men inside. Jade used her body to angle away and once safely from the helicopter she popped the chute.

Her body jerked upwards as the large parachute opened and slowed down her landing. Looking back she watched the blades of the chopper disappeared into the Bush. A large explosion subsequently followed as black smoke billowed out from the tops of the trees. Jade just smirked to herself and turned her attention back to the mansion

Guiding the parachute forward she reached up and unclipped the chute from her pack and felt gravity suddenly pull her down. Cheshire landed down on the soft dirt ground on one foot and kneeling with the other she had her head bent and then looked up at the looking mansion. "Very nice.. too bad those men aren't going to be able to enjoy some of the fruits of this island.. maybe I'll find them a souvenir or two.." She chuckled to herself as she rose from her position and slid off the parachute pack.

Shifting her duffel bag into her hand she walked around the property edge of the mansion finding the front door. Testing the knob she softly turned it and stepped into the cool air of the place she would call home for an undetermined amount of time.

Dressed in a short fitting oriental styled green dress with a massive Jade gem centered in the middle it shined in the light. Gold trimmed green thigh high boots showed just how high her outfit rested. Her long dark locks bounced as she could hear sounds coming from upstairs, most likely her new teammates.

Cheshire had been given minimal details on what was going to be happening, but had been promised by Luthor she could spend a few more years outside of the maximum security prison she had spent the last 5 years in. She had been pulled out being told she was being sent on a privately funded mission and failure was not an option.

She hoped to get along with those she would now be forced to team up with. What the end goal was seemed to be still a mystery to her, but she was up for any challenge.

Bane walked towards the kitchen, about to go and make himself a cup of coffee if nothing else- he assumed Luthor had more than ample supply of coffee; though god help the bald man if it was espresso. Bane hated espresso.

Still, there was a certain pleasant odor in the air, flowers, to be sure, but flowers that were somewhat familiar to Bane...

    Ivy.

Ivy would see about a third of a massively muscled hairy shoulder cross the threshold when Bane heard the door open behind him. Turning, he saw Cheshire, narrowing his eyes as he attempted to place her.

There were not a large number of people operating at this level; one could probably count the world's entire population of metahuman, superhuman, augmented, and otherwise exceptional mercenaries, assassins, and criminal masterminds on both hands and perhaps half of one's foot. So while Bane had never personally met Cheshire, that name was on the short list of guesses as to who the woman was.

She was beautiful, to be sure, and that always made Bane a little nervous.

    He was...

    ...bad, with pretty women.

Ivy being here was bad enough, but now this exotic beauty.

With his head turned towards the kitchen, the venom shunt-ports on the back of his head out of Cheshire's sight, it might not have been immediately obvious who he was. Ivy had certainly seen enough of the big man to place him, masked or no, but it was unlikely Cheshire had- their times in both the Secret Six and the Suicide Squad had not been concurrent. Still, with her cunning, she probably had him on a short list as well. Bane, perhaps KGBeast. Perhaps Mammoth had finally shaved his beard?

Then again, Bane doubted this woman, whoever she might be would put Mammoth of all people on the same level as himself and the Beast.

Bane studied Cheshire a moment without speaking, and was just about to, when one of the doors leading into the foyer was knocked on.

    Bane stopped, and blinked.

Who the hell is knocking on the door, here?

Bane held up a big finger in a "wait" gesture at the pretty Asian before stepping across the foyer to the front door and opening it, staring imperiously down at the man in the Hawaiian shirt and cargo shorts, with absolutely zero idea who he was looking at. He hadn't been sure precisely what he expected- maybe Deathstroke or Raptor or someone like that.

Bane took a step back and crossed his enormous arms, looking between Cheshire, the newcomer, and the door to the kitchen, waiting for Ivy to emerge.

Ivy's eyes watched, lidded and almost bored as she heard the movement of boot on tile and stone, body growing stiff for a moment as her eyes moved to one of the windows - a smoke lifting from the overhang and twisting her mood from something calm to something much more sour. Her stomach felt as if it were dropping to the floor, a silent scream - white, hot grief flooding her as she felt the island itself shudder under the crushing blow of the helicopter crashing to the ground. A disturbance in the Green sending tremors through her slender figure.

Those poor darlings - her poor children.

    They hadn't deserved to suffer.

But the one who hurt them - they would.

And a momentary fury rocketed through her, sliding off the stool and beginning to move - head lifting as a shadow loomed across the doorway - a momentary widening before catching a glimpse of masculine form. It didn't take much to recognize the man, having traveled well enough in the same circles. But a glimpse was all she was given before he was vanishing from view - turning back to the entry he'd come from.

So Bane was on this island.

    Had he done it?

The redhead padded across the tile once more, this time with a purpose, eyes hardened and brows furrowed, the fate of those beautiful creatures echoing in her head.

Someone would feel her anger, feel her rage.

With each sole landing and moving across the seemingly too large kitchen, the greenery tucked beneath her dress began to grow - snaking up and out of the neck of her dress as if it were a python, coiling around its mistress.

As if it were alive. Because it was alive. Just like those tortured beings in the forested area of the island.

The ones that had been destroyed thanks to Cheshire's carelessness - though Ivy was unaware of just who the culprit was, the redhead was nearly hysterical, shoulders tense and raised, bright green eyes shining with wetness as dark bangs clouded her vision.

Noticing more than just Bane there, his arms crossed before him, as if he were waiting for her to make her entrance - two other strangers in the room with him. An absolutely gorgeous woman of Asian decent, and a handsome man looking like he'd just been airlifted from a Caribbean cruise.

Not exactly what she'd been anticipating.

But then again - Luthor hadn't told her she'd be working with murderers. Killers - yes. She didn't care a single bit about that. As far as Ivy was concerned, the humans deserved it.

    But her plants?

    Never.

Ivy broke the silence, her voice - typically fashioned into a sultry coo - instead was husky with emotion that radiated in her entire body. A fury she tamped behind the green appendages coiling around her throat, across the top of her chest, wrapping in her hair and stroking her cheek.

    "Which of you did it?"

A slender digit lifted, body turning and pointing out the window, to the distant billow of smoke as animal and plant alike went up in flames that were beginning to be doused - a sprinkler system lifting and quashing that growing inferno, the smoke beginning to fade as she pointed at it.

But the damage was done. Her children were dead. They were ash.

Snart looked at the hulking man before him and then at the two beautiful women. No one seemed familiar to him at all. "You're definitely not the butler," he said looking Bane up and down so I suppose you two aren't the cook and the maid, although I'd be more than happy to role play those roles with you two sometime. So, I guess that makes you friends of Mr. Luthor. "

Snart walked into the foyer with his bag and glanced around at the no-expense spared opulence. "Gotta give it to Lex. The man does know how to spend cash." He held his hand out to Bane. "Leonard Snart, but you can call me Captain Cold." He nodded to the two women, " Ladies, " he said nodding as he flashed his award winning, charming smile.

Cheshire watched as Ivy moved into the room with a glower in her eyes and her accusatory remark. She smirked to herself and spoke up "Well they deserved it. I can't help it if those dumb military guys thought they could keep the upper hand on me.." Cheshire shifted to leaning against a wall casually as she looked at Ivy with little fear of how powerful she was. "I'm sure they will grow back.. It's just a couple trees.. whatever.." Cheshire had heard of Ivy as well as Bane, but had never had the pleasure of working with them. The third guy was unknown to her, but she figured if Luthor knew him he must be good at what he does.

When the man in the Hawaiian shirt mentioned who he was Cheshire remembered someone telling her about him and the many devices he owned. She was curious to see what instruments of destruction he brought with him. She bared her teeth a bit and hissed at him when he turned and flashed her his big smile. Cheshire knew better than to get to close to any of these villians. While they were all to work towards a common goal, Jade knew better than the trust any of these people.

Jade turned her attention to her poison dipped nails that hung from the tips of her fingers. She noted that later she would need to go on a search of the area to see what poisons, herbs and other natural medicines were around and what she could combine to create a deadly concoction. There seemed to be plenty of accessible things on the island and she would need to devote a few hours to scavenging the land.

Jade looked up at Bane and then at the other 2 "So does anyone know why we are here and what Luthor wants us to do? He gave me little to no information.. I'm a bit hesitant to stay here.." she said crossing her arms under her bust.

Bane bristled at Ivy's snapped question. He raised a hand roughly the size of a Thanksgiving turkey in a palm out 'shush' gesture at the red head. "Bombea tus descansos, bruja. No one cares about some weeds." He was not going to allow Ivy to get in and start her ecoterrorist nonsense already, when they'd hadn't even figured out where they were supposed to be sleeping, for God's sake.

Snart, Snart... Bane went through his head, trying to place the name. Captain Cold....

He nodded to himself. Of course, the second rate Mr. Freeze that the Flash contended with.

"Poison Ivy." Bane said, pointing at the statuesque redhead. "Captain Cold." He shifted his pointing to Snart. "And..."

He cocked his head, looking at Cheshire a moment longer. "Jade Nguyen. Cheshire." He said, snapping his fingers. "Alright. So we have...an assassin, a... " Bane decided to be charitable. "...master thief, and we have a woman who can control plants and by extension, control men."

Bane knelt down and unzipped his duffel bag. "And we have, most importantly, me."

He retrieved from his bag an envelope, and raised a scar-slashed brow at the other three. "Most importantly me because I'm the only one who apparently thought to ask Luthor follow-up questions.'

The giant stood again, all too smoothly and graceful for someone of his immensity, and opened the envelope. Inside was, in addition a frankly irresponsibly large wad of money, a folded note. Bane unfolded it, and held it out in the general direction of the gathered menage of ne'er-do-wells.

"We are under contract to Lex Luthor, in capacity as mercenaries and black-and-wetworks operatives. He has enemies, they our to be our enemies, and we are to ensure that our enemies are not alive anymore. He predicts espionage, both corporate and political, murders, assassinations, clashes with costumed adventurers, and a high likelihood one or all of us will die."

Bane grinned humorlessly. "Which is why he's offering us so much and allowing us use of this fortress...palace.... gaudy mansion... thing." Bane shrugged. It was like watching a freight elevator go up. "And there was some nonsense about getting to know each other, forming bonds of camaraderie, the importance of interpersonal connections a unit..." The face Bane made looked like he'd kissed the wrong end of the baby. "Corporate team building nonsense. But until we are called upon, we are to enjoy ourselves in this decadent little Isle of Capri he's set forth for us."

Ivy's entire figure tensed as she listened to the disrespect these ignorant buffoons spouted. Being so willing to admit to that violence, her head almost snapped towards Cheshire, eyes alight with an amalgamation of shock, awe, and an undisguised layer of disgust.

    Just
trees? Did the woman not realize the importance of the trees on that planet? Did she decide to forgo the importance of oxygen to make a grand entrance instead? The redhead was opening her lips to speak, eyes darting to the most normal-looking of the three of them, a slender brow lifting and body moving back just a hair, the foliage wrapping around her in almost a protective casing, eyes still burning with fury as Bane's hand lifted.

    Witch.

The action almost made her laugh, the words reverberating in her ears as he spoke. It had been a few months since she'd last heard that title, the twisting of her stomach and her grief burning a hole as she listened to him.

Obviously they didn't understand how she operated.

    But they would learn.

Bane's succinct explanation of their roles made her eyes roll, stepping away from the group and allowing herself to wrap up in the familiarity of her green companions.

If they expected her to only utilize her abilities on men, they were sorely mistaken, though her eyes cooled, teeth clamped together in a tightness that screamed a frustration, until that narcissist was singing his own praises once again.

A roll of emerald orbs was her response, a soft laugh bubbling from her as she hummed out.

"Glad to see you're still able to make any situation revolve around you, Bane..."

His summary of their expectations wasn't a surprise to her, having been ready for much worse in terms of what the bald man had wanted. But Ivy had already come to her first hurdle, and it was that not a single one of them understood the importance flora held. Not a single one of them understood what the smallest alteration could do in starting a chain reaction that would end with their demise. She'd already begun feeling tired, already prepared to pull herself back from this group and to surround herself in warmth, to recuperate.

The idea of someone's merit coming through thievery was fine - but something about the Hawaiian shirt spread across Snart's back combined with his title was almost humorous to her.

    Voice soft, she spoke.

"You don't look very cold to me..." A low purr, shoulders tense and arms folding across her stomach as a simple growl came from her as Bane finished his exposition.

"It's always been my dream to spend my life alongside an egomaniac, a man who could be mistaken for a dad on vacation, and a woman who doesn't understand the importance of the things around her,"

Her body stood still, toes curling to press harder against the tile, appreciating the friction as she spoke.

"I typically don't play well with others... If we intend to keep at least one of us alive until the end of our tenure with Luthor... you'd best understand that working with me means playing with those weeds and trees... and caring about them would be in your best interest,"

Snart was a little taken back by the two beautiful, yet unfriendly females, and was surprised to find that the only one who wasn't openly hostile to him was the man-mountain Bane, whose unfriendliness and propensity for violence,, preceded his reputation.

Snart sat his bag down, unzipped it, and removed his cold gun. He fired off a shot at the tiled floor near Ivy's feet and caught her arm before she slipped. The spot where she was standing was instantly colder and he offered her his parka from his bag. "Cold now?" he asked. "Don't judge a book by it's cover. I don't have a need to harm your precious flora with my cold gun, although I could. I just try to be a little more sympathetic to others. Perhaps you could start yourself."

"Bane. It seems that Luthor must trust you enough to have given you the cash and instructions so, I'll ask you this. What's your take on all of this? Any idea who or what our employer has his sights set on?"

Joker didn't want anything to do with Luthor, that bald, snob-nosed, better-than-though, egotistical maniac. He wasn't interested in the money, or the shiny objects that came along with it. Certainly not this stupid island. He wrinkled his nose at all the pretentiousness Luthor had poured into making this Island such a 'perfect' place. Luthor needed everything to be that way. Shiny, pretty, over-the-top, just that little extra to rub you a little bit raw. It showed in everything Luthor did, his clothes, actions, even his 'evil' schemes were rubbed up in ostentatious indulgence of his own intellect. It made Joker want to puke. He held in the vomit as he moved up the sandy beaches. His dirt colored eyes scanning over the environment, his new home.

In the distant rolling, black clouds of smoke tainted the otherwise perfectly blue sky, it made him smile. As small animals fled the burning forest he felt tempted to grab one and snuff out the light but there was no point. He instead watched it run, in terror to the sea where it found itself just as lost as it was in the flaming woods. He saw a lot of himself in that animal. Everyday he saw people just like that poor, little, wretched thing. Running from the flames of their doomed existence only to find themselves trapped on the worst roller coaster ever made, damned to the inevitability of their own demise. The difference between him and everyone else was he saw it, recognized it. He knew he was a scared, tiny, miserable, awful cockroach slotted for death by cosmic apathy.

Finally turning his attention back at the grotesque manor that adorned the sandy beach. Joker took a few strides to the door before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a cigarette, awful habit from a long forgotten life. He placed the butt between his lips and lit the end taking in a long drag before entering that awful place. Just as he did he could hear Captain Cold speaking "Bane." Well it was good to know Luthor had the brains to get some muscle for this operation. Joker smiled though, he and Bane had a history back in Gotham, a common foe but Joker wondered what exactly it was that Luthor had promised Bane. Money? Minions? A way to finally break the Bat? The thoughts that filled his mind made his chest sore from the idea of laughter.

"It seems that Luthor must trust you enough to have given you the case and instructions so, I'll ask you this. What's your take on all of this? Any idea who or what our employer has his sights set on?" Joker couldn't help but laugh at the futility of such a question. Joker laughed so hard that he felt tears rising up. The white make-up on his face smeared slightly as his cheeks creased. Once he ceased laughing he brought the cigarette up to his lips to take another long drag. The tears rolled back into his skull he refused to show these morbidly, depressing, little tools his tears.

"You don't get it. It doesn't matter what Luthor wants. The better question would be what do you want? What reward has Luthor promised you to make you his little goon, huh?" Joker took the finally drag from his cigarette before putting it out on the wall. His crooked teeth, and awful smile seeped through neon red lips. Greasy dyed green hair rolled down to his shoulders knots visibly seen from a distance. He was as nasty as you had imagined. A wretched, grisly, mutilation of the human existence. White, blue, and red make-up stains stuck to his fingers as flicked the cigarette butt at Captain Cold. "What about you Bane? Did he promise you the Bat, or was it money? Your answer doesn't matter just curious."

He didn't take the time to observe the other two members of the team, his eyes so focused on the lumbering hulk. His beady, grotesque eyeballs focused on Bane. Either of the females could have easily killed him at this moment and to him that didn't matter. What mattered, what truly mattered, was that he got what he came here for, the truth that would break the Bat. With this knowledge he could finally break him, finally get him to see that nothing matter, that Gotham didn't matter. The stupid laws he fought to uphold didn't matter, the little gothamites didn't matter, those stupid sidekicks didn't matter. With the knowledge Luthor promised him he could finally reach the pinnacle of their relationship, finally finish the deadly dance the two of them shared.
