Ziva was worried. Both Gibbs and Tony were each angry and sad, possibly depressed and she didn't know what to do. She glanced over at McGee, and he seemed to think the same thing she was, as he quickly bowed his head and resumed doing is paperwork. But that didn't stop her from getting up from her desk and crossing over to Tony's. She carefully pushed some of his papers aside, careful not to mess them up, and then when he looked up at her and their eyes locked she said, "Tony."

"Are you okay? I know that you regret having to lie to Jeanne, but it had to be done. That does not make it okay, but.. It is what it is. All you can do from now on, is try to move on. But, if you wanna talk, I am here."

    ______________

Gibbs was pissed. Jenny had lied to him. A lot in the last several years. She had killed René Benoit, aka La Grenouille, and hid it and lied about it. She also claimed to have killed Svetlana, but that was just another lie, something that had come back and bitten her in the ass. She had nearly died in that damned diner, for letting Svetlana go all those years ago. And then of course, there was the fact that Kort had killed Jenny's father, not Benoit. And now, there was also cancer that was ripping her apart, and she hadn't told him.

He supposed that that was what had pissed him off the most. That she would lie and keep something so serious from him. They had once been so close.. but now.. He slammed down his cup of coffee on his desk with such intensity and force that the liquid spilled all over his keyboard and got the monitor, too. "Dammit!" He muttered and grabbed some napkins and started to try and wipe up the mess with them. He glanced up just in time to see Jenny exit the Director's office a few moments later.

When she walked to the edge of the stairs and simply started down at him, he gave her a fierce look that said without words that he was well and truly ticked off at her, and that they were going to talk and soon, and no excuses of any kind would be allowed. He was tired of being lied to, and she was going to start talking.

''I don't wanna talk about it, Ziva.'' He dragged her name across his lips and made eye contact with her, but it was short-lived. He knew she was worried, but he, in all honesty, couldn't discuss with her what really troubled him. That letter. That damn letter. It was so complicated, and remembering the whole thing made him angry. He was filled with rage. Not because he was in love with Jeanne, but because he had to hurt her. To look into her eyes and lie and say that he loved her. He lifted his head up and glanced over at an obviously pissed off Gibbs. The man wasn't in his good graces lately.

Mainly, because Tony knew first hand, how much damage Gibbs has inflicted, and he wasn't even aware of it. He watched as Ziva retreated back to her desk, and debated whether to go to her and apologize for being dismissive or to let it be. Apologies were, after all, against the rules of saint Gibbs. He glanced back at Gibbs again, and then followed his boss's gaze up to Jenny and glanced at her. He felt sorry for her if he was being honest. They had become friends somewhat, over the months Gibbs spent in Mexico. Which meant that he had far more insight into the complicated relationship than he would ever wish for.

    ________________

Jenny turned her gaze away from Gibbs and redirected it at Tony. She looked like she had a debate of her own going on. She turned towards MTAC, and then it seemed, changed her mind and instead, made her way to her office. ''Cynthia...'' The Director said and called for her assistant. ''Call agent Gibbs's team into MTAC in 10." She ordered and her faithful assistant picked up the phone to make what she assumed was a very uncomfortable phone call.

She thought a lot about the past. It's not like she wasn't remorseful, but she refused to feel remorse for the things he, Gibbs, wanted her to. It was complicated. Her feelings were very carefully hidden. Jenny imagined how frustrated Gibbs was going to be when he was informed of yet another undercover op. But, that wasn't her fault, and she refused with every atom of her existence, to give him the right to be frustrated. It was her job, and if he expected her to explain everything and to justify every single little thing she did, he was a fool.

But, this time, Jenny was going to follow SecNav's orders and if Gibbs had a problem with it, he could take it straight to the 'big guy'. She picked up the files on her desk and put them under her arm, and then made her way to the MTAC.

Ziva simply nodded when Tony dismissed her, and for once, she didn't bother to tease him or try prying into what he obviously didn't want to talk about. She simply took a seat at her desk for a moment, before she got up. And without another word, she started for the stairs and Jenny's office, not bothering to check
on the looks that she was sure Gibbs, Tony, and McGee were giving her. She knocked on the door to the Director's office, and when she got inside, asked Cynthia
if she could speak to the Director for a few moments.

When the other woman agreed and let her inside, she closed the door behind her. "Jenny, we need to talk about what happened in the diner, and some other things. Gibbs isn't the only one who's upset. You ditched us," She said softly, hurt and angry. "I thought that Tony and I were supposed to protect you and help you. But you went into that diner with Franks, and as much as I like him because he's Gibbs's friend.. You basically went in there alone and could've gotten yourself killed."

"What kind of person does that? I get that you were trying to make up for a past mistake, but, you didn't have to do it alone. Tony and I almost didn't get to the diner in time. Do you know how much that would have devastated him? Or Gibbs? They both care about you, Jenny. And so do I. I thought that we were friends, but what kind of friend ditches her protection detail, and makes it so that her friends have to find them almost dead? If Tony and I hadn't got there when we did, you'd be dead."

Ziva paused for a moment and then said, "I'm sure you know, because I know you saw the look on Gibbs's face a little while ago. Whatever you're keeping from him, you need to tell him. He looks like he's about to shoot someone. And you know, you might want to be honest with him about the things you're hiding, so that you can make sure it's not you that he shoots." The young woman pushed her hair out of her face a moment later. "Jenny, I know that you've been asking Abby and Ducky to run tests on blood samples."

"And I also know it's for your sister. Gibbs thinks you're the one who's sick, and he's hurt, upset, and angry that you didn't tell him. You need to talk to him about The Frog, your sister's illness, about Svetlana.... and about your feelings for him. Basically, the two of you need to have a long talk. And before you say it, I know
it's not my business, that I'm just an employee. But I'm also your friend or at least I thought I was. And I'm Gibbs's friend, too. Hell, Gibbs is part of my family."

"And I don't want to have to choose. Because if it comes down to that, I'll go back to Israel. I don't want to do that, but I refuse to be used as a pawn again in one of your games, or one of Gibbs's games. I care about and respect both of you. But I also think it's high time that you and Gibbs showed the same respect to the rest of us. If you can't be bothered, then I will turn in my gun and badge by the end of the day. I'm sick and tired of being someone's pawn in a game. I spent too long being my father's pawn."

"I didn't join NCIS just to be used by you or anyone else. Oh, and one other thing. Tony, while he might act like a clown sometimes.. He cares about you, and he cares about Gibbs, so don't put him in between the two of you anymore. And don't use him for your dirty work. He doesn't deserve it. He'll never call you on the crap you pulled in the diner, but I will. I don't appreciate you setting Tony and I up to find a dead body if we hadn't gotten there in time. I also don't appreciate
you putting my partner in danger."

"You did it because you wanted to fix a screw up that you made however many years ago. And you used Tony and I to do it, and I will never forgive you for putting him at risk. His life is important. You need to remember that. We used to be friends, Jenny. I used to be able to talk to you, and I used to trust you. I no longer trust you anymore. Tony's life, my partner's life, is more important." After Ziva spoke, she turned around and simply walked out of the Director's office, slamming the door behind her in anger, as she went. She made her way back down the stairs and over to her desk, where she dropped down into her chair and didn't bother looking at anyone, she was too angry.

    _______________

Gibbs got up from his desk and walked over to Tony. "You got something to say, DiNozzo? Then just say it. Because the look on your face that you've been sporting the last few days, seems to say that you do. Spit it out or get over it." He wasn't in the mood to get lectured on how he had no right to be pissed at Jenny. The young man was just another pawn in Jenny's game, and didn't even know it. But Gibbs had been around the block enough times to know better. He couldn't trust Jenny.

Not after finding out about her lies. He didn't want to feel this way. He missed her. He still cared about her. Sure, maybe not as much as Shannon, but he had been honest with Jenny from the start that he would always love his girl's. But he had once considered Jenny to be one of his girl's... too. Only he had never gotten the chance to tell her that. She meant a lot to him, which was why it hurt so damned much when she hid things from him and lied. It made him question himself, and it made him question her.

It made him wonder if he could ever trust her enough to give her his heart again. After a moment, he shook those thoughts off. "MTAC, now. Director's orders.." He snapped at his team, and then removed his gun from his desk, grabbed his badge, and then headed for the stairs. He was well aware that his tone was harsh, but at the moment, he didn't care. He was trying to keep control of his temper, which was ping ponging back and forth between dangerous anger, and worry that Jenny was going to get herself, or one of his team into a situation that wouldn't end well for any of them. He cleared his throat as they all headed up to MTAC and went inside.

Jenny watched the team as they entered the darkened room. She swallowed hard, mentally preparing herself for what's about to come. Ziva's words still echoing in her ears. She made mistakes and was well aware of that, but so did others. She hated herself for what she did to Tony, but nevertheless, she kept making excuses. Gibbs? That was another story. She will take the hit from the team, and even apologise, but she will never break or fall under him--the man who dismissed the fundamental notion of apology.

As they approached her in the front of the big screen, she cleared her throat softly, hiding everything that she ever felt. She was the Director, and most certainly could not allow herself to show doubt in front of her agents.
''SecNav wants you on a specific case'' she informed. Before they had a chance to ask any questions, she continued ''There is a serial killer, hunting in the DC area. Targeting marine wives'' she explained. She then pulled the files from under her arm and passed them away to the team. ''All details are in there'' she informed. She did not dare to look at their faces, as she knew what she would see on them.

''You can go now'' she dismissed them, her voice gentle. As they started to turn to leave she called for Ziva.
''Officer David'' she waited until the rest of the team exited the room before speaking to her.

''I know what I did was wrong. Very wrong.'' she lowered her head. ''It was not because I didn't trust you.'' her voice started to shake. ''Tony deserved better and I should have handled it better.'' she made a step closer to Ziva, lifting her head up and making an eye contact. ''I am sorry, Ziva'' she said softly like she was speaking to sister. ''You saved my life in Cairo, and I trust you beyond words.'' she smiled gently, letting Ziva know, that she had never forgotten the terror Ziva had saved her from. ''As for Gibbs'' she started ''That is between me and him. And whatever I give him, he deserves it.'' she explained, her eyes pleading for understanding. Her heart hoping that Ziva will see things from her point of view when it came to Gibbs. After all, she did spoke often of him when they were on a mission in the Middle East together. Ziva knew a lot about their situation, but still, she did not know everything. She could not comprehend how terrible Jenny felt when she had found out about Shannon and Kelly last year. How betrayed. She loved the man, they spent two years together, she had put her life into his hand, and yet, he never told her of his loss. And yet, he laughed at her when she told him she loved him, although she never expected him to say it back, she did not expect him to laugh at her feelings at all. ''I will make it up to you'' she said softly, silently praying that she would get another chance from Ziva.

Tony was in the bullpen, with Gibbs and McGee, reading over the file, when he heard the doors to MTAC open. He glanced up at Ziva, still deliberating whether or not he should have a serious talk with her. There was something about her, that made him feel safe. At the moment, she was the person he trusted the most.
When she approached her desk, Tony shot her a question ''What was all that about?'' he asked, referring to her private meeting with Jenny. Then he glanced over at Gibbs and realized it was probably not a good idea to discuss anything connected to Jenny in front of him, partly because he was pissed, but mostly because, despite everything, he leaned more to Jenny's side than to Gibbs'.

Ziva waited while the others left, when the briefing was over. And when Jenny said her name, she realized that the other woman wanted her to stay back. "What can I do for you, Director?" She asked, with the deserved respect for her boss in her voice. When the redhead apologized she said, "Thank you for your apology to me. You should also apologize to Tony. He has been loyal to both you and Gibbs and he has been juggling playing both sides longer." She gave Jenny a tentative smile back, unsure of where their friendship went from there.

"I was happy to save your life, Jenny. I just do not understand why you would waste your life playing games. You didn't ask for my opinion, but I'm going to give it to you anyway. You should put your cards on the table with Gibbs. Be honest. With yourself, and with him, and maybe things won't be as bad as they have gotten anymore." She paused for a moment and then looked at her friend. "Can I give you a bit of advice to think about? You're angry with Gibbs and you feel betrayed by him, because his hid the loss of his family."

"It wasn't about you. I know I don't know Gibbs as well as you do, but I've been working with him for a while, and it's rare that he talks about Shannon and Kelly. So, I hope you won't be too angry with him about it. I think.. for Gibbs.. the only way he can cope with losing his family, is to not talk about them. It's nothing you've done. It's just that some people handle grief by not talking about it. I am the same way when it comes to my mother and my sister, Tali. I do not talk about them, because it hurts too much."

"Perhaps it's the same for Gibbs. Anyway, I've said my part, and I should get out of your way, and get back to doing my job. Let me know if you need anything," She said and exited the room silently and returned to the bullpen. When Ziva returned to the bullpen and heard Tony's question and simply shrugged. "I wanted to talk to the Director about something, that's all." She said, not wanting to put him in the middle of any more hurt, drama, or pain. "It's taken care of, so there's nothing to worry about. We should just focus on getting our work done."

    __________________

Gibbs got up from his desk shortly after Ziva returned, and he walked up the stairs, went into the Director's office and closed the door behind him. "Whatever issues we have with each other, I think the least we can agree on, is to not to take it out on my team anymore, right? I've never had a problem with telling you when you did or said something I disagree with, Jenny. And you've never had a problem putting me in my place when you thought I needed it. But.. this has gone too far, for both of us."

"I hate being lied to. And I'm not gonna sit here and try and justify why I withheld my past from you. My past is in my file. If you wanted to know so badly, you have the upper hand as Director and you can access it anytime you want. As for me not telling you... I don't talk about my girl's. I rarely have since losing them. You might not like that I kept it from you, but it's not something I like talking about. They're dead, and they're not coming back. I can't do a damn thing about it."

"We both know that I took care of the guy who killed them. It won't bring them back. And talking doesn't help me. It might help others, but all it does is remind me of what I lost. So if you're pissed that I kept the fact that I had a family, from you, then fine. But it's my choice whether or not I talk about them, and I choose not to. You never talk about you father, and I don't talk about my girl's. And there are some lines that you just can't cross. Even I have them. There's a reason why rules, 12 (Never date a coworker,) 14 (Bend the line, don't break it) and 1 (Never screw (over) your partner) exist."

"I learned the hard way that even friends or partners could become enemies." He paused for a moment and then said, "I don't always agree with how you do things, Jenny. I'm not saying that I'm never going to buck your orders again, because we both damn well know better. But all I can promise is to do better for my team, and to try and be less of an asshole. I can't say that I won't fail. I will. A lot. But I'm trying to do better. I think I at least deserve credit for that. When I lost my girls.."

"When I lost... you... I wanted to burn the entire world to ashes. And you know what? Sometimes I still feel that way. But then we get a case, and we're able to protect some little girl and her parents, or I look at my team and see DiNozzo getting the life hugged out of him by Abby, or Ziva and McGee teasing each other playfully, and it makes the world a little less crappy. I am who I am, Jenny. I've been this way for a long time. You can either accept it, or fire me. I try to do better."

"But some days I just don't think it's worth it. But as long as we can still do our job, that's all you should be concerned with." After he spoke, Gibbs turned around and walked out of Jenny's office and went back to the bullpen, where he dropped down into his desk and started going through files.

Ziva's words spoke the truth, and she wasn't sure whether she could handle the truth at this particular moment. She will apologise to Tony, no doubt. She did have a lot of respect for the man, and she did consider him a very good agent. She always saw a bright future for him, and it had surprised her when Gibbs told her Tony wasn't ready for his own team. But, now, she had a job to do. She was being serious of reevaluating her actions, but that will have to wait until she could be alone with herself.

She strode back to her office, sitting behind her desk and grabbing the files to evaluate how dangerous this mission will be. SecNav wasn't joking when he said they were dealing with quite a nasty piece of work, and her stomach twisted at the idea that she would have to send Ziva undercover. That now, her boss is making her do it. She was sick of undercover work and secret ops, the last one she was on, was horrific. She'd been tortured and almost killed if not for Ziva. The one before that, she came out with the broken heart. And, there is this one. With Tony. The one where she became so obsessive that she had hurt a person for her personal agenda. She didn't mean to, she got caught up, made a mess. She was broken many years before, and it seemed like it all came to surface when Gibbs left to Mexico. But, it wasn't his fault, she could never blame her. She still loved him. And she might be the only person in the universe that understood him. It was complicated.

Her door swung open, and she was not surprised to see Gibbs standing in front of her desk. But, she was surprised at the number of words he had said. Jenny thought that all the time she knew him, he never said so many words at once. Gibbs was, as Tony liked to say, a functional mute, so his outburst shocked her at first. Nevertheless, she carefully listened to his words, drinking them in. He didn't leave her much space to respond, and she wasn't sure what she would say to him. He was right. It was between them. It had broken her hear that he thought she was angry because of Shannon and Kelly. She wasn't. It broke her heart when she heard about them because she could understand how hurtful it must have been for him. He lost his child and his spouse in the most horrific way imaginable. And no one should ever go through that.

He left the office and she couldn't stop thinking about his words. She couldn't stop thinking how wrong he was about her. It was a vicious circle between them. They just kept hurting each other, and neither one of them would step out--it was like they wanted to get hurt. But, as Ziva said earlier, they had to deal with it, they have to clear things up. She knew, though, it will be a long journey to repair the friendship with Ziva and Tony, even longer to repair whatever she has with Gibbs.

When Gibbs strode upstairs, Tony glanced back at Ziva, hesitating to ask his next question. ''Is he going to kill her?'' he asked jokingly, but somewhere deep down he did wonder how far could those two go. He looked at Ziva again, noticing her wavy, thick, dark hair framing her face. He shook himself from thinking about her hair, he was supposed to be heartbroken, right?

He looked at Tim and smiled mischievously ''What ya' think probie?'' he asked and then turned his attention back to Ziva, deciding to use the time Gibbs is away and ask her what he wanted all along. ''Is everything ok with you and Jenny?'' he looked at her ''I mean, director Shepard'' she corrected himself. It has been Jenny when Gibbs was gone because they have become friends, but getting that head slap when he called her that in front of Gibbs, was something to rethink whole name calling thing.

''You alright Ziva?'' he asked, now worrying that his family might be falling apart.

Ziva made a face at Tony's words. "Gibbs is upset, not stupid. He's not foolish enough to open fire on the Director in a building full of armed agents. Besides, even if the two of them aren't getting along right now, that doesn't mean he'd do something so crazy. They've known each other for a long time and there is a good chance that the two of them have a lot of baggage with each other. I think it's best if we just mind our own business and stay out of it, unless things get to a point where we need to step in."

"And if that happens, I always find that a few well placed shots into the ceiling of whatever room I'm in while fighting is going on, usually gets the fighters to shut up in surprise and start to listen to reason. At the very least, it would make them understand they're behaving immaturely, and should for the sake of the agency, try and put
their issues aside long enough to focus on the job." She fell silent when he turned to Tim and started to talk to him. Now that the attention was off of her, she was relieved.

Ziva dropped down into her desk and then pulled out some paper work to keep herself busy. She was worried. About Tony. Gibbs. McGee. Abby. Ducky. Jenny. Everyone, basically. If things between Gibbs and Jenny got anymore sour, there was no telling what was gonna happen next. She could only hope that somehow, the two of them would work out their issues. Because they really didn't need a repeat of the diner scene where Jenny got in over her head and nearly got killed.

She shook the thoughts away, and looked up when Tony spoke to her again. "Things with the Director are complicated. And as to your other question, I'm okay, just.. concerned. The last few months have been difficult and I'm ready for things to calm down a little around here, is all. Are you okay?" She asked and glanced over at him,
true concern for him was in her words as she asked.

    ______________

Tim shrugged at Tony's question, after he had watched everything happen, and then turned to face his co-worker and friend. "All I know is that unless Gibbs and the Director need a referee to keep them from killing each other, I don't need to know or want to know their business. It's safer that way, and it's just a good policy to follow in general when it comes to learning or not learning private things about your bosses or teammates that you have to work with. So, whatever you're trying to stir up, Tony, I'm not interested."

"I think I'm just gonna follow Ziva's lead and focus on my paperwork unless Gibbs says that we've got a case. Until then, I think it's best if we just forget anything and everything that we just witnessed, as I sure know better than to poke the bear. Gibbs is the bear that won't simply eat your arm and then move on, but who will eat
you whole and then move on and start looking for another snack. So, I didn't see or hear anything, and I don't know anything. You know, just to be on the safe side."

Tony sensed a bitterness in Ziva's words, and he couldn't help but think it had more to do with them than with Jenny. She was clearly worried about him, but he didn't know what he would say to her. His feelings were mixed and he was utterly confused. He tried to plant in a joke or two to cover it up, but obviously, it was hard to escape her well-trained eyes. She could read most of the people, she was trained to do so, but she could read him better than anyone he ever knew. She knew him maybe even better than he knew himself. He wanted to tell her how it felt being undercover, how it felt reading the letter, but most of all, he wanted to tell her how much it meant to him that she was always there.

He got up from his desk and came to stand in front of her. He looked down on her and leaned to whisper. ''Drinks tonight?'' he offered, as to redeem himself from how he dismissed her earlier. ''To talk'' he clarified. He didn't know why he did it, it was instinctive for him. He dreaded her answer because he still wasn't sure what he would tell her. He then turned his attention to McGee, to change the subject ''So, this guy is a piece of work'' he commented looking at plasma screen, where the information on the latest case was spread. He glanced back at Ziva and softly smiled. ''So what is it that SecNav wants us to do?'' he asked approaching the screen and looking around him. In his usual manner, he was about to make a joke about Gibbs, so he instinctively looked around to see if he was near him, because as history tells, he was always right behind him when the joke would be said, with the preloaded head slap. ''Think Gibbs is being hard...'' he chuckled before finishing the remark he found amusing ''...on the Director?'' he smirked.

"Drinks, tonight, yeah.." Ziva said slowly to him, as she forced her thoughts away from her concern, and onto the conversation that Tony had started. "Definitely. And first round's on me. I'm looking to get crashed and just put all of this mess of the last few months behind us." She smirked when he clarified that he wanted to talk. "I'm game if
you are. For talking, and maybe for a few other things.." She said grinned. She trailed off her words on purpose as she left open the possibility of other things happening.

And it gave her a chance to tease Tony and let his mind run free with his usual overly sexual thoughts. Maybe if you're good, you might get a bonus, too." She said flirting.
Then, she cleared her throat and turned her attention to McGee, when Tony did. She let him change the subject back to the case they had at hand. "The Director said there
is a serial killer targeting marine wives." She glanced over at Tony. "You know what this means, don't you? It means that it's time to come up
    with another alias for both
    of us again..."

Ziva said and then sighed and rolled her eyes. "I am only going to say this once, Tony, so you better listen. Or you will pay the price. If your hands ever start to stray to any unmentionable areas, you will lose all of your fingers, got it? Now, where was I? Oh yes, the Director is going to have us go under cover as a married couple on
    a marine
base..." She trailed off and made a face when Tony made a sexual joke about Gibbs and Jenny. Then, she laughed as Gibbs smacked Tony as soon as the last word cleared
    his lips.

The stunned look on his face made her laugh harder, as she shook her head in full amusement at their usual behavior. "You still haven't learned to keep those kinds of thoughts to yourself, have you?"

Tim suppressed a smirk and simply shook his head, as he fought not to laugh when Tony got smacked by Gibbs. Then, he cleared his throat and turned the topic of conversation back to work. "What I think, is that I'm gonna love watching and listening to the two of you go under cover as a married couple on a marine base. Oh and Tony, one little bit of advice. Make sure that Ziva doesn't have access to any guns or knives, especially if you tease her or irritate her while you're working this op.
And if that can't be avoided, then just don't piss her off or you'll regret it."

He laughed at the killer look that Ziva gave him, and then turned back to his computer and began to type a few minutes later. Tony and Ziva posing as a married couple was going to be hilarious. Well, that is if Ziva doesn't kill Tony before the operation came to a close. Oh, he definitely couldn't wait to see how they handed it.

Tony wasn't sure if it was particularly smart idea to tell Ziva about his very confusing feelings tonight. Since they are supposed to go undercover soon, he found it might be too uncomfortable if she does not feel the same way about him. But, before everything, Tony DiNozzo was a gentleman, and he was not going to disappoint a lady, so he did not cancel the drinks. He did, however, spend the rest of the day thinking about their undercover assignment, and all the tension between them. He wondered what it all meant, and if he was the only one feeling the tension. He looked at Gibbs, scanning him quickly and then back at Ziva and McGee. He needed a moment alone, so he got up and made his way to the men's room.

Jenny left her office, still shaken up. The fight, or whatever that was with Gibbs, hit her core deep. She found it hard to concentrate on anything else. As she made her way to MTAC to have yet another conference call with SecNav and CNO, she stopped for a moment and glanced over Gibbs and his team, noticing that Tony was away. She needed to mend stuff with him, she needed to talk to him, but now, she had a case and a call to focus on.

Tony opened the tap and washed his face with cold water, thinking about drinks with Ziva and what he will say to her. How he will approach the subject and was it smart to tell her about his feelings now, or should he wait after the case. He looked at his own reflection in the mirror and exhaled harshly. It was what it was, and he thought it the best if things developed naturally. It was 8, and it was time to call it a day, so he went back to the squad room, waiting for Gibbs to dismiss them. And, after that, he guessed, its show time!

Ziva was slipping her jacket on, when Tony returned. "Gibbs just called it a day," She explained, when Tony walked back into the bullpen. "He said that we are free to go. So that drink that we agreed on, we can have now. I invited McGee and Gibbs to join us, but they both have plans. So it looks like it is just you and me." After she spoke, she removed her gun from her desk and slipped it into the holster on her hip. The dark haired woman checked her gun and then badge, made sure that she also had her wallet and car keys.

And once she was sure that she had everything that she needed, turned back to Tony. "Wanna go to a bar, or to your place?" She asked, as she watched him finish getting his things together, and then the two of them left the bullpen together and headed for the elevator. They both stepped into the elevator a few minutes later, and after she pressed
the button for the ground floor, stood in silence with Tony as the elevator doors closed, and then they started on the way to the bottom floor. She cleared her throat a moment later.

"Tony," She said softly, as they continued to wait in the elevator, to arrive at the bottom floor. "I talked to Jenny, and she knows how messed up her plan was. So, if and when she tries to talk to you, I hope you will listen. I know that you're not particularly a fan of the Director right now, since she and Gibbs are at odds, and you are usually on his side, but I hope you will at least hear her out. We have all done things that we shouldn't. We have all made mistakes. And Jenny.. Ah.. The Director's plan to take on all of those men by herself at the shootout, was stupid."

"I have told her so, and I have let her know we aren't happy with her for making it so that we almost found her body, instead of finding her alive. Just... She's not a bad person. She made a mistake, and though I am angry at her, I can also understand. She didn't think she'd die. She thought she would be able to take them out on her own, without risking our lives. But she failed, and she's still alive and has to deal with how her plans caused us to feel betrayed by her. I just.. She made a wrong choice. Something we all do. Don't be too hard on her."

''Bar'' he answered her question, smiling softly at her. If he was going, to be honest, he wanted to have an exit strategy in case thing didn't go as planned. If things went the way he hoped, they could always retrieve to his place. He followed her to the elevator, and once they were inside, he for some reason, felt very uncomfortable. It was almost a weird feeling. They were friends, they talked and joked, and had each other backs, but it seemed his newly discovered feelings, that were confusing, made him feel uncomfortable when he was near her.

She called his name and he turned to look at her, her serious face making his soft smile fade away. He listened to what she had to say, feeling a bit irritated that Ziva would assume he was upset with Jenny when in reality, there were other things that really bothered him. After Gibbs had left to Mexico, he had become close to Jenny, and they were somewhat friends. If he was really going, to be honest, it was between him and Jenny and he didn't want anyone to meddle into it. But, he wasn't going to be rude to Ziva, not after it took him weeks to gather courage and decide to talk to her about what he feels.

He looked at her softly, gathering his patience. ''Honestly Ziva, leave it alone'' he said to her, and maybe he sounded harsher than he intended to. He swallowed hard and flipped the switch to stop the elevator. As soon as the elevator stopped and darkened he came close to her, invading her personal space. ''I talked to Jenny after I read the letter'' he said. He exhaled and shrugged his shoulders. ''It is between me and Jenny, and she is not the one I'm pissed at'' he explained. He was tired of everyone assuming they knew how he felt about things. The truth was him and Jenny were friends, and after he rejected Rota promotion, they had a long talk that shed light on somethings. He would say, Jenny was the only one who knew how he truly felt about Gibbs leaving and returning, and how he felt about Ziva. ''There are more pressing issues that I have to resolve with you'' he said, inching closer to her face. He looked deep into her eyes and for a moment he felt lost in them. He shook himself out and put the switch back on. The elevator had resumed to descend and he turned to her again. ''Ziva'' he said, his eyes glued to the elevator door. ''Tonight is about something else.'' He said as the elevator stopped and the doors opened.

Ziva held her arm out in front of Tony to keep him from leaving, once the elevator doors opened, after they had reached their floor. "Okay, so if you are not angry at Jenny, then you are angry at Gibbs. You did not ask for my opinion, but I am going to give it anyway. Be careful what you say to people, Tony. You are angry with Gibbs for leaving like he did, and you are even more angry at him for coming back. But the truth is, whatever happened between Jenny and Gibbs, it is not our business."

"I do not want to have to pick sides. I do not want to feel like I can not even trust my own friends anymore. In Israel, there were only two people that I trusted. Schmiel and Ari. And now Ari's dead, and Schmiel too. And the only family that I have left, the only people I trust left, are my friends here at NCIS, and I refuse to let anyone screw that up. So, whatever your problem with Gibbs is, maybe you should go and talk to him. You and I can always reschedule. It is not like I am going anyway."

"So, go. Go to Gibbs's house and tell him what you think. Yell if you need to yell, rant if you need to rant. Just.. you need to work through whatever your issue with Gibbs is, before it impacts the work. When that happens, it becomes a true problem and we can't risk having that happen. When that happens, it means there is always a chance there will be trouble in the field. And I do not want your issues with Gibbs to be something that gets you hurt or killed. So, we will go our separate ways."

"Talk to Gibbs, work through your issues. And if you finish up before 2 am, then you can come by my place. I am going to leave my door unlocked until 2 am. After that, I am going to sleep. Good night, Tony.." She said and exited the elevator after she had removed her hand from in front of him. The young woman started across the parking garage and headed for her car a few moments later.

    _____________

Gibbs was seated in his basement with a bottle of Scotch on the table next to him. He had a glass in hand that he had filled to the top and was slowly drinking from. He was taking a break from working on his new boat, as he thought over everything he had said to Jenny that day. He knew that they both still had feelings for each other, but he was hesitant to do anything about it. They had a long history together, and there was no way that it wouldn't get constantly dragged up.

He didn't want to have to defend himself in a relationship. He just wanted to be with the person he cared about, without being afraid of pass screw-ups, messing everything up. He also didn't want to have to feel like he had to hide his girl's. They had been his life, and they still were. Most days, knowing how upset and disappointed Shannon and Kelly would be if he ate his gun, was the only thing that kept him from actually doing so. That, and the fact that his team still needed him.

Well, they weren't just his team anymore, but his family, too. And he knew that DiNozzo was pissed at him. He hated that, because Tony had always been on his side, since the younger man had joined NCIS. And now, it felt like his second in command was on Jenny's side and he didn't like it. He was well aware that he'd screwed up when he left, but he'd needed a break and some time to get his head together. No one needed to know just how fucked up he had been.

But, if it meant that it would clear things up between him and Tony, then he'd apologize to the younger man tomorrow. They all needed to be on the same side, and have each other's backs.
