The Forest was as dark as one would expect this time of night, and per usual, the short man found himself walking between towns, through the forest, half lost in thought, and the other half just walking aimlessly in the same direction he'd been walking in the last two days. Could you go any slower? I'm bored. "Shut up Annukai, I'm not in the mood, and don't have the time." He responded to his counter part, and kept walking in silence. You're never in the mood, and we have nothing but time at the pace you're making, Keenst. He let off a scoff, and kept walking his pace. No need to hurry when he didn't know how far he had to go.

The forest was growing thicker by the minute, which meant they were deep inside of it, which he could have told you an hour ago, when he first noticed it. He sighed lightly and kept his pace, weaving in and out of the thickly growing trees, both in density together, and the trees themselves seemed to be getting bigger, older, and more full of life.

Life. that was something that he took for granted, especially taking as much of it away as he did. That was what he did, when not working for the knights, He was an assassin for higher, to make due between works for the Knights. He continued to walk until he opened himself into a grove of trees, that surrounded a small lake. This is where he stopped for a second, and refilled his water satchel. Are you rightly done thinking about how bad you have it you poor excuse of a killer? "Just because i don't eat everything I take a job for. Just because i judge them for myself before taking their life, does not mean I don't do my Job. I'm a Demon Knight before all else Annukai. Or have you forgotten?"

Shut up, I haven't forgot, I just don't understand why you put other lives ahead of your own personal needs. Keenst shook his head, closing the satchel, and taking a drink from the lake itself, before continuing his walk around it. It was large, and clear, he could swear he could see the bottom of the lake, but maybe not. He wasn't paying too much attention, now pondering what Annukai said to him. Why did he put others before himself. " Its the creed. Protect those that can not protect themselves."

Keenst didn't bother talking anymore, as he rounded the lake slowly, getting back on the path he had originally set himself on, and walking straight back into the forest, which was still thick and nearly made it hard to breathe. How much further until the town, he was sure one was near, a lake this beautiful? He soon found tracks, though they looked days old, and trampled by wolf tracks as well. This was going to be fun following, he only hoped it was to a town, and not some house in the forest.

He continued to follow the trail for what seemed like hours, but was maybe half of that, watching as the trees thinned out, and it became easier to breathe, until the drizzle of rain began to fall through the canopy, and mat his short white hair to his head. His clothing began to get wet as well, the Black jacket, and pants, though his vest and shirt stayed dry, his shoes started to cake with mud, which was bad for him. His shoes were designed with spikes, to run up walls, and trees, dig into it with the spikes under the toes and on the tips of his shoes. and mud bothered said spikes. He let off a sigh, and continued walking, the trees thinning out was a good sign, though he wasn't sure if it was the sign he was looking for or not.

Two more hours, give or take a few minutes, Brought him to a small little town in the middle of nowhere, the rain having stopped and started again. He was literally soaked from head to toe. He gave a sigh, and found a building to stand under, before shadows seemed to consume him and his clothes, and water and dirt fell off him as if never there. Then he read the door, or rather Annukai did. Dragon's fire inside, as well as the Dark Net. Its a tavern. No fighting, punishment by death. "You're aware i can read this just as well as you? I think you just like hearing yourself talk." He said pushing open the door. Walking in wearing his usual black attire, weapons littering his body, as always. He took a seat in the corner.

The tavern in question was visited regularly by a ... "Interesting" individual. Wearing a blue jacket with a white shirt, black shorts and slippers, he appeared to be a skeleton which seemed to be smiling all the time. The rest of the crowd in the tavern were also of similar appearances. Ranging from fish creatures to humanoid dogs frequent the tavern, sharing drinks and having laughs. The one who ran the bar was a living fire elemental, sporting black sunglasses and appearing to be cleaning off a cup in front of the skeleton.

The individual was speaking with the bartender when someone entered the tavern, completely drenched from head to toe. They took a seat at the far corner, isolated from the others. The individual decided to greet the new arrival, but not in a normal way. They would walk behind them and spoke slowly to them:

    * d o n ' t y o u k n o w h o w t o g r e e t a n e w p a l ? t u r n a r o u n d a n d s h a k e m y h a n d.

The individual held out his hand to the new arrival, concealed in his bone-palm was a Whoopee cushion, his classic intro.

Keenst was less than amused, that this...Entity thought he could sneak up on him. " Don't you know its rude to interrupt someone in thought? Slightly presumptious to assume friendship from someone you don't know, littered in weapons, and obviously wasn't looking for company. Sit, or go, i'm famished, and waiting on the waitress, wherever she is" Harsh Keenst, But i can't say i don't approve. Came the voice in his head, talking, as always. Probably a major part as to why he was rather annoyed.

Keenst did a scan of the tavern, just where was he? So many different creatures, and of cultures he had never seen. So loud, obnoxiously so even, which made his thoughts wire even more. He sighed lightly, and kicked the seat across from him out a little. " Well which is it? Are you staying, or are you going?"

A split second after he kicked the chair, the atmosphere got silent as all the other monsters turned to face the pair. Removing his hand and putting it into his jacket pockets, the individual chuckled a little.

    * heh. guess you're not a happy one huh? it's cool. name's sans, sans the skeleton. i couldn't help but notice how you strolled on in here completely drenched. i guess you've been ... 'washed up' huh?

And as he said that joke, the tavern laughed in amusement. Sans was known by the monster-kind as a comedian, telling jokes and puns to entertain.

    *
you must be a newcomer or something, i don't quite recognise you. but i'd keep the place peaceful here, wouldn't want the bartender to kick you out when you've just shown up, would'ya?

Keenst couldn't help but laugh, " I've done nothing wrong, I've started no fights, I've shown no aggression, I just don't make it a habit to touch people i don't know. So sit, or go, I don't care which." He said as once against the shadows consumed him, taking the water off him again, as well as the mud and dirt. "And i'm afraid i don't know what you mean, I'm dry as can be. or do your lack of eyes make it hard to see the blind truth in front of you." This was odd as Keenst had yet to turn and look at him. " Keenst. Demon Knight of Shadows." he said and waited for his waitress to come to take his order. He was rather hungry after two days of walking without food.

He sighed lightly as he looked through the room, fourteen males, eight females, a lonely little fire elemental behind the bar, and the bones behind him. Twenty four patrons at the bar, Twenty five if he included himself. Oh so you can count, and how fast can you include the Dark Net mage in the back? Can you take them all if it comes to it, Keenst?

Sans observed them eyeball everyone in the tavern slowly.

    * that expression... i wouldn't recommend it, buddy. hey, grillby! we'll have a double order of burg.

He yelled towards the bartender known as Grillby, as he went into the backdoor to prepare their burgers. He took a seat opposite the demon and put on his serious face, his pupils disappearing in his eye-sockets.

    *
so. you're a demon knight huh? cool. although from your appearance, you strike me as one of the monster royal guards. guess everyone has their inspirations, huh?

He chuckled as he grabbed a bottle of ketchup from his pocket and began drinking it in front of the demon.

"I don't take kindly to those fishing around in my head, or assuming they know what i want to eat. You're just a presumption bag of bones, aren't you?" Keenst gave a growl, if this creature could hear Annukai, Annukai wasn't going to shut up. Precisely, Jackass. If i wanted to address a dog treat, i'd talk to you myself. This is a conversation between me, and the body i reside in, kindly keep your....Face out of it.

Keenst couldn't help but laugh, Annukai actually taking his side on something? That was interesting. " I'd prefer some chicken, with a side of of potatoes, a salad, and a loaf a bread. Branded with Dragon's fire whiskey, despite what this... entity thinks I want, and ordered for me."

"Royal Guard. Fitting considering I could be, But alas i'm a Demon Knight which is a much better title to hold, demands much more respect, that evidently out here in the boons no one gets." He shook his head and waited for the retort he was sure would come.

    * heh, if you say so buddy.

After a while, the bartender dropped off the food that Sans ordered, to which Sans told them to grab what the demon requested. Meanwhile Sans would just take the other burger and have that alongside the one he ordered.

    *
so. i'd rather you not try to cause any trouble here. we monsters have done well keeping the peace. we were already sealed away in Mt. Ebott once, we'd rather it not happen again.

The mention of Mt. Ebott and the seal caused the crowd to continue their stares, moreso towards the demon knight than Sans. Tension was high, and everyone knew San's potential despite only having one HP.

Keenst didn't mention anything about the fact that his head was the one being dug into, nor did he comment right away about this, Mt. Ebott that was being talked about, considering he didn't get it. " Cause Trouble? I've not once started anything, you approached me, i was minding my own business. If anyone was doing anything,... San's? I believe it was? You were starting trouble, or attempting to. I just came in to get out of the Rain, Get some food, and talk to the Net back there behind the third bar shelf, to the left... Get my job and go." He scoffed lightly as he waited even longer on his food.

    * heh, can't blame a skeleton for keeping an eye-socket out for his fellow monsters. 'specially when that someone appears to be quite armed.

Then Grillby returned to the table and presented what Keenst had ordered. Sans had a feeling something was going to happen, it's the same feeling he had when he judged many humans back in the Underground. All the while they were talking, he was checking him.

    *
i can't help but notice you kept your eye on one particular monster in here and you kept talking about a so-called, job. that one wizard over there in the corner?

He pointed to the entity that Keenst kept referring to.

Keenst stayed quiet besides, " Thanks Barkeep." he said, as he began to dig into his food, ignoring the chatty skeleton for a moment, and enjoying his food. He was ravenous, chicken went in the salad, the potatoes gone near instantly, before he started on his salad and took his first drink of Dragon's breath, and continued his salad, tearing off parts of the bread, and eating it too.

" I'm an assassin, The dark net is where i pick up my jobs, and the dark net goes through the mage of the town."

He went back to eating. as if he hadn't in days, because he hadn't. His drink almost done, about the time he finished his food. He picked up his napkin and wiped his face off, before finishing his drink. " As for creature? I'm not watching any in particular, i'm watching you all. they seem hostile towards me, when i've done nothing wrong. I've got to watch myself , for my well being, if this is the environment i'm in." He said with a shrug, Is there reason for this worthless banter? You've ate, get the job and go. This place bores me.

    * so that's what he was. he just appeared one day and never moved since. he at least never laughed alongside the tavern whenever i performed. but hey, sometimes there's that one person who does not have a sense of humour.

He chuckled as he continued drinking his ketchup. He then realised that the tavern was looking at them.

    *
hey guys, relax. this guy seems cool. if he does get out of hand, i can handle em.

And after that, they all resumed what they were doing, having drinks, talking with each other and other things.

Keenst laughed hard, oh that was rich. so rich. "You can what now? I don't want any trouble, but don't write checks your..... You have no hope of cashing." he said with another laugh. Handle a demon knight? He shook his head, what did this guy think he was? Some sort of super hero?

"Look, everyone who's skeptical, I was hungry, and i'm here to see that guy that evidently no one pays any mind too, sitting two rooms back behind the bar, with all the weird stuff around him."

Keenst said as he tapped his glass, " Another, Keep, please?" He said as he pulled out a pouch of gold, and laid 5 pieces down, three for the meal, and two for the drinks. That should cover at least what he consumed, and possibly more.

The bartender simply nodded and grabbed another drink from the shelf and presented it to him, taking the 5 pieces. The crowd simply continued enjoying their time at the tavern.

    *
buddy. i like ya, you seem like a swell guy and all. but that expression... heh. i won't grace it with a description. heheh.

His face was the serious one, no pupils in the eye sockets. One monster approached Sans after witnessing him pull the face twice. "Sans. I know that you're the one who handles the judgements of people that meet monsters, but do you really think this guy is causing trouble?"

    *
i know that, something about this guy just seems... off. like someone is talking to him even though we're the only ones at this table. my dreams...
"Sans, are you really going on about that genocidal demon in your dreams again?"
    * you don't understand the whole situation like i do.
    "Sigh."

And after that sigh, the monster walked back to his friends, grabbing their mug again. That left Sans in his serious face, he looked like he was contemplating something, unaware that their conversation was not private.

Hmmm, so he can't hear me, or isn't aware of what i am...

"what is this about dreams? And why do you assume i'm the one that's off? Because i don't fall for your... humor?" he said, ignoring the first part of the conversation, for now. He took his drink and drank half of it, before finally speaking up, " I'm just being honest buddy, I'm one of the most exceptional fighters in the known, and unknown world, I wouldn't pit yourself against me, if you valued your bones in solid pieces." he said as he scanned the bar for the back door, to find the mage's entrance. Fourteen creatures between him and it, and a half a glass to finish. Shouldn't take too long.

    * heh. not one for comedy huh? not everyone is.

He chuckled as he then realised that Keenst listened in.

    *
so you listened in huh? then you must know why i have bad feelings about what's about to go down. perhaps you should peacefully make your way to whoever you need to meet.

He still kept the serious face on, but was not as hostile as before, however he still had bad feelings about the situation, it was certainly different than how it played out with the genocidal human, but had similar vibes.

Perhaps you should keep your teeth shut and not tell you BETTER what to do.

"Annukai, do us both a favor, and shut the fuck up. I can handle myself thanks. What's he going to do? Muscle me to the ground?" Keenst shook his head, and finished his drink, before standing and making his way through the patrons of the bar, to get whatever job he could manage from the mage in the back.

Are you seriously going to take that from a pile of bones? "Shut up. I don't need any more trouble because of your mouth...."

That exit confirmed his suspicions; there was someone else talking to Keenst while they were interacting. Sans mumbled to himself:

    *
sounds like someone 'was' talking to him, and was sparking him to attack. sounds too familiar...

He watched them leave the tavern from the backdoor and decided to follow, remaining hidden by teleporting into a crate to listen in. Something about him left Sans rattled. The situation was too familiar not to investigate further.

Keenst brought himself to the back table, and watched as the mage turned around, almost as if surprised to see someone come back here, after all this time.

"I hate to be a bother, Sir, but i'm trying to reach the Dark Net. I'm in need of a job, and assumed you could help?"

    "Password?"

"Zakolha Gaurda Annukai, Shelcata" Should work just fine. but if not, "swisesfaunder."

"Very well, good sir, we have 3 jobs, take your pick carefully, because the other two will not go to you, once you pick your one.."

"Yeah yeah, i know how it words, Sir, but thank you for the reminder." he looked at the envelopes, and slowly pondered, one two or three.... He picked the third one, " this is the one for me. thank you sir. I'll be back to collect on it, maybe. depending on who it is, and where it takes me. He stood up, and walked through to the next room, and empty table sitting there, he sat back down, and opened the envelope, dropping the contents onto the table. He blinked, and looked at it.. The barkeep? What could he have done to piss someone else off? he seemed nice enough, this smelled wrong. He was going to have to stay and investigate. He lifted the picture to the lantern on the wall, and burned it completely.

Sans overheard that there was a job involving the barkeep and contemplated something.

    * (grillby? why would someone want him dusted?)

He thought to himself as he remained inside the crate, still observing the mage. He couldn't afford to move now, he'd blow his cover. For now, he remained in the box and waited for the demon's next move.
