    Good evening, delicious friends!

I’m Anguissette - Angie to my friends - and I’ve been roleplaying on and off for a fair few years now. Some of that’s been face to face tabletop roleplay, some of it’s been real-time text-based play on MUSHes and more recently (like… the last seven years?) it’s mostly been in lovely forums like this one.

Back when I played in the same room as my friends, one of the settings we had a lot of fun with was Vampire: the Masquerade - and for Reasons I decided it was about time to go back to that and run my own story in the fanged World of Darkness. Forget the dice and the pages and PAGES and pAGes of rules, let’s just take the setting, pick a city of our own and have fun with it.

What is Vampire: the Masquerade? In Vampire: the Masquerade, the players assume the role of vampires, immortal beings cursed with an unquenchable thirst for blood and vulnerability to sunlight – creatures forever bound to their inner Beast (the animal urges of hunger, fear and rage). It is a game of personal horror, as the characters are continually forced to walk a moral tightrope between their need to survive and the horrific means by which they ensure it.

Uhhhh, that doesn’t actually sound that fun. Don’t worry, we tend to play with it. Imagine a city full of bloodsucking immortals (like, sixty in a city of millions) who don’t want to attract humanity’s attention and so “play human” in the titular Masquerade. They have various different supernatural strengths and weaknesses, many of whom come directly from the thirteen different “Clans” or types of vampire they have - although since we’re stepping outside the rules I’m open to pitches for other ideas. They spend their nights at play, in indirect factional struggles or (more rarely) in open war with other factions. The world is a dangerous place, and death is a constant threat - but in most times and in most places you are the most dangerous thing to haunt the night. And you know it.

What about... sex? Yes you can. The game will be sex-positive, if not entirely sex-centric. I know the original setting said no (in places) and yes (in others), I’m house-ruling that vampires can have and enjoy sexy times, though at the cost of “burning” up some of their blood to emulate humanity that way. I definitely hope something like that will happen.

That’s nice. What are you actually looking for, chatterbox? I’m looking for 3-5 players to play as kindred, or vampire characters. They’ve been sent to another city far from home to convince/blackmail/coerce/murder the local vampires and take it for their own.

What if I don’t want to be a vampire? Can I be like… a human minion or something? Sure, pitch away! They’re called ghouls here, and they get some superhuman strength and stamina - but as weak as ordinary humans are to them, so they are to kindred. Have fun with that (I know I’m tempted).

No no no, what if I want to be like… an ordinary human? Or a werewolf or an elf? Um… probably not, no. Different game maybe, unless you want to set up a plot as an ordinary human who gets turned by one of the other players. Which could be fun!

Any posting expectations? Say 3 paragraphs as a target? If you go longer because you’re having fun and have a lot to say, that’s cool. If you’re caught in conversation or an action scene then maybe shorter posts or a collab would work - don’t sweat the wordcount.

So, uh, if I want to play, what do I do now? Let me know! Post here or message me with an idea! If we get lots of interest I might have to pick and choose; it’s more important that we have a group that has an interesting dynamic (whether that’s friendly, bickering or… something else) than that we have a group that’s “the best it can be”.

    This is roleplay.

    Enjoy yourselves <3

Oh dear, I remember playing this with some of my friends way back when. We lost all the D10's and out of the ten of us who played, only myself and one other bothered to read everything.
    </3 Awful...

Anyhow! I'd love to be a part of this as well, but I have to ask two things first-- we're not going to go too hard on any pre-established lore, right? If you give me an hour I could probably crack that dusty book open and read up but it'd probably make me a little unhappy.

And second, do you mind if I play two characters instead of one? I have a habit of doing things like playing twins or one female one male in groups, though it's not a necessity for me.

Damn can't find my Vampire the Masquerade source book, but I am sure I can remember how to play my Ventrue if I put enough thought and work into dusting off the cobwebs. I always had fun playing a power hungry vampire CEO. lol

Omigod I forgot to say. In all that intro stuff.

    Lack of lore is F.I.N.E.

I'm going off what I remember and I'm ignoring parts of what I do. Lore says we're in the Final Nights as everything accelerates towards awful destruction and the world tears itself apart, around about the turn of the millennium. I'm fine with that to a point, except... it hasn't happened yet. So while some people are still waiting for some of the book events to happen, others are shrugging and deciding to worry about their earthy existence since apparently the Big Bad Gehenna has been cancelled. So far.

    Golconda can wait :3

And potentially sure, although I'd ask you to pitch them both when we get to that point. It's fine (and encouraged) to describe a relationship to other characters in your bio. I find that leaves us less with a group of individuals who immediately run off in all directions when the whistle blows.

Although if you all do want to do that, there is such a thing as a phone. Go right ahead.

Welcome to the interest check, Overlord X! I'm looking forward to reading your Ventrue - although the only thing I'll caution is that you're all new to Seattle, and the locals may need convincing to welcome you. On the other hand if your Ventrue had a corporation back in Chicago it's entirely possible that he's "overseeing a transfer of operations" here if your wealth is one of your big strengths.

We'll get to the character sheets when I put up the OOC thread, probably Sunday.

(And when I work out where they go!)

Good. If another showed up, it'd be a fight to the death -- but I'd turn that shit into some wicked hatefucking.

    -rolls in, conspicuously, then flops-

It's either I join this RP or I go play Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines for the hundredth time. Or maybe both, we'll see...

    Whichever works!

    Welcome Snowflake!

I'm aiming to get the character pitch details up this evening (my time) so we can look deeper at theme and group setup.

Beyond that, say we aim for a GM post every week?

So, to clarify, three paragraphs or more and each member posts every week, correct?

Three paragraphs as a flexible target (not a hard rule), and each member posting once a week if possible.

I'm not too concerned unless we're going two weeks without hearing from a character, and even so I'm unlikely to write anyone's character out of a scene until we hit 3-4 weeks depending on how central they are and who is stuck waiting for them.

    So "yes, mostly"?

Hmm, I may have to wait this out then. x) Since I’m in school, I’d very likely take at least a month or more to post and I wouldn’t want to slow anyone down because of my real life committments. If this rp is still open by the time I find more time to commit to rping, I’ll see about coming back to this. :3
