Attention all. Locals and travelers of the Dawn. A recent concern has been reported in Duskfell woods. The ninth commission is looking for members to fill its ranks and uncover the source of this disturbance.

    Positions Available
    Two ranged:
    Taken- Dead_Moth
    Open

    Three Fighters:
    Open
    Open
    Open

    One Healer:
    Taken- PolarityR

    One Scholar:
    Taken- That_peskyFern

    Instructions

Report to the Scholar wearing the official emblem, currently situated at the Goat's Eye tavern. If accepted, she will direct you to your duties.

    The World
Long ago, the earth split. Fell into fragments that gradually drifted apart. Now, centuries later, the realms are connected once again, but not as they once were. The worlds move slowly on tectonic plates of air and an unknown energy.

Great forests of mushrooms, their spores poisonous to all but the inhabitants and abundant each time spring passes. Worlds of water with finned hunters who scour its depths. Ancient trees grown upon the backs of mountainous beasts, host to their own ecologies as they migrate through the worlds. Spiralling mountains of snow and ash, birth to horrors that grip the mind. The possibilities became endless, and so the commissions were formed, dedicated to exploring and documenting the different realms.

The Kingdom of Dawn is the closest thing to a home of the old world. Humans there are still as they were. Adaptable. Persistent. Proud. Those species that are unlike their own are rarely welcome in the bountiful lands, though they stand as a crossroad to many others. Yet occasionally, very rarely, a different species will enter the ranks, and slowly the humans have to accept there are other kinds who live among them.

    Species

Those humans who were cast into different realms rarely resemble their old selves. They have long since assimilated to the conditions of their new homes, and old grievances can run deep between the races. Biome-related advantages are common among the split-human races; lizard people who can navigate marshes with ease and hold their breath for extended periods of time to those more suited to gliding and perching on branches. Though with these advantages comes consequence, and the more inhuman traits the individual possesses the less welcome they often are among regular human civilisation.

    Rules
    No magic.
    No anime logic.
    Please be respectful of lore.
    One character per person.
    No mounts.
No flying adaptations; gliding is acceptable.

In general, this is to be based more around exploration and adventure. Please fill one of the positions available, rather than making your own. The rules may change as the roleplay progresses, this is just to start off with.

    Appearance:
    Name:
Realm: What sort of biome they come from. It can be general; forest, desert, tundra, ocean, ect if you're unsure. Or you can go into detail if you had a particular idea.

Race: Most flora and fauna are possible splits, with varying degrees of influence over appearance. If they're pure human then it's N/A.

Position: the character's role in the group. Should be taken from one of the available spots in the intro post.

Bio: The characters story. Can be as long or short as you want, so long as it touches on their adaptations--or lack thereof--abilities, and history.
Other: Any other information you wish to include.

This seems really interesting! I have to admit it really had drawn me in. I would like to be a healer. Though, I was a bit confused about some stuff. What exactly does each class do, necessarily? And how exactly is this RO going to play out plot-wise? I’m not asking for a detailed synopsis, but rather more of a general kind of explanation. I felt a little confused on that stuff and was hoping you could clear up the confusion :)

    @PolarityR
I'm glad to hear! The intro was a bit rushed, so I'm happy to answer any questions. The positions are basically character types, so @BoundObsession ranged are just distance fighters, or people who can attack from afar. Not necessarily rangers—though @Dead_Moth has expressed interest in being an archer.

The healer position is basically a type that patches up wounds. So an apothecary, local physician, witchdoctor, normal doctor ect, keeping in mind knowledge is relative to the medieval-esque timeframe. Scholar is taken by me, and is in charge of documenting discoveries and directing exploration in the different lands, and fighters are close range combatants. Hired combat power to fill positions the ninth is short on.

Story wise, the first part has been planned out. The characters will be investigating the anomaly reported in Duskfell woods. Beyond that though—assuming it gets that far—it'll depend what people join and how the rp has evolved. Broadly speaking, the characters will be exploring the different realms as the scholar works on compiling information for the commission; depending on how many people are split-human races, there might be conflict with or within the kingdom guard; or it could just be quest-like issues the group encounter on their adventures. Rest assured I'll try to keep it moving, but I've found planning too far ahead ends in a lake of my tears :')

Hopefully that cleared things up for you, but if not feel free to say so. I'll be working on getting a character example up to make the split-human idea a bit more understandable.

    Name: Kelvada Oolong
    Race: Thorny Devil
    Realm: Desert
    Position: Scholar

Story: Kelvada was blessed with a keen memory and a penchant for language that few can match, which earned her the rare opportunity to study as a scholar at the human kingdom. Originally she came from a realm of sand and ash, which blistering winds from a volcanic region eroded into great mazes of sandstone. Her people used such structures for homes, carving out abodes to shelter them from the wind.

Currently, she is in charge of the ninth commission. A recently founded and heavily under-supplied research task. She suspects it was a move by officials to remove adapted humans from the kingdom, due to an unusually high portion of split species in its ranks. Nonetheless, she considers it an honour. Those of impure lineage rarely hold higher positions in the kingdom.

    Other:
    • Coming from a desert realm, her people developed tough, scaled skin and spines to defend themselves from threats. Her appearance is mild compared to many of her kin. The warriors of her people in particular often have more thorns than skin and spiny quills instead of hair.
    • Largely ambivalent to water. Can go great lengths without needing to drink, but also can't swim.
    • She sees well both in night and day, due to a second eyelid that protects her from the sun's glare.
    • Drafts reports in her native language, the written form very jagged and straight due to its usual scratching into sandstone.

    Note on Setting.
I am entirely unsure what my distinction between 'realm' and 'world' is, but I seem to use them interchangeably. The setting for the rp essentially has continents suspended after the earth fell apart, so the different lands are called various things. Travelling between them can and probably will be an issue. Major trading routes often have bridges to cross, otherwise rope ladders, swings, and possum lines are used if there aren't air currents available. Flying mounts are a thing, but they're rare and no one in the ninth commission would be respected enough to use one.

    @Diranue
Sounds good. I'll try to keep the positions updated as to what's taken and what's available in the original post.

Okay, this does help. My last question I can think of is for character sheets. Seeing that you have a drawn character as your face claim, do you want us to find more drawn/cartoony looking characters for the appearance picture, and avoid realistic ones entirely? Or does it not really matter to you?

Ohh, good point. I drew the image I used myself, which is why it's sort of cartoony looking. It doesn't bother me if the artwork's more realistic. Though I would prefer to avoid photo face claims.

    Name: Morya Allenger

    Age: 28

    Realm: Forest

    Race: Pure Human

    Position: Healer

Bio: Morya Allenger, commonly called “Mor,” is a pure human who lives in the forest realm. However, it wasn’t always her home. When she was young, only several years old, Morya moved to the realm with her parents for their safety. Events occurred in their old realm, causing them to flee for their lives. With tree density so great in the forest realm, it provided them cover and an escape from those who might be after them. But, the cost of moving there was discrimination. As pure humans, many in other realms despised them. All races did. This made it hard for them to find jobs, travel safely, or even go to markets without facing discriminatory actions against them.

As time went on, and her family struggled to get by, Morya did the best she could to learn many things-agriculture, medicine, and all other things that could be useful in the event of discrimination against them requiring her to need to apply and use these things. She became accustomed to these things. At age 17, she was able to get work for the local town doctor, one who didn’t discriminate against her or her family for being pure humans. Under his guidance for years, Morya learned a great deal in the world of medicine. The doctor was impressed at how fast she picked up terminology and procedures, often remarking that she was a prodigy. Many patients weren’t happy, however, when they saw a pure human helping care for them. But Morya ignores it, as it was her duty to care for the ill.

Years passed, and Morya became even more experienced as a doctor. At times, she was even doing surgery-like procedures on extremely injured patients. Respect for her started to grow within the town. While it wasn’t much, it was more than what it was years ago. This trickled down to her family, as they started getting discriminated against less, and even accepted by some. It was progress they hadn’t seen.

Morya’s life took a drastic turn at the age of 23. The village that she worked in was attacked by a neighboring hostile village. For years, tensions grew between the two. There was a distinct hatred between the two for a number of reasons. This began to trickle and spread throughout neighboring parts of the realm, with different villages allying with others. With escalated tensions came many terrorist attacks on each other’s civilians. It wasn’t unusual for there to be news of deadly attacks on innocent people between the two. Morya often had to care for victims of the attacks, if they were unfortunate enough to live in the badly damaged state they were in. In spite of all of this, there was never any true attacks on the villages themselves.

    That was, until that day.

With high tensions were many attacks on the villages and their supplies. People were killed, crops were burned, examples were made. But the enemy village had had enough after three of their main farms, responsible for the vast majority of the food for them, were burned and destroyed, with many people killed by Morya’s village. The hostile village attacked Morya’s, with the help of some other villages and mercenaries, and began to burn and kill everyone they saw. Morya was in the doctor’s office closing for the night when the sound of screams and fire erupted in the village. The hostile village went house to house, killing or severely injuring everyone they could. They destroyed food supplies, building materials. But Morya couldn’t just sit back, or else she too would be dead. Spending time learning to use a sword, Morya grabbed it and the armor she had (as the travel to the village was so dangerous she needed it), and ran out to find other townsfolk to get people to fight back. After some running around and motivation, she was able to get a good number of people to fight back. A battle ensued, and the village was eventually able to repel the invaders. But the cost was high. Many people were dead or injured. The injured were carried by Morya and others into the doctors office for her to treat them. The entire time, the doctor was missing. Morya did the best she could, saving many, but also losing so many to the severity of their injuries and how she was the only one able to tend to them.

After a grueling 7 hour battle to keep the people alive, Morya was finally able to walk away. When she walked outside, the townsfolk caught eye of her, as came over to her, parading her as a hero for saving the village, and the people she could. She didn’t know how to react. She hesitated for a moment, asking if they had seen the doctor. Silence ensued, before someone spoke of the gruesome details of what happened to him. The blow this had on Morya was an understatement.

After some other help with injured people and more praise from the village, Morya finally got to go home and sleep. As she rode her horse towards her house, smoke filled the forest. Upon reaching her house, she found it set ablaze, as two people ran out of the house. Her mother and father were ablaze. She could see the skin burning off of them, the agony was heard in their screams. Morya tried to help, but there was nothing she could do. They died a slow, painful death on fire in front of her, while her house burnt to the ground.

Morya was a changed girl even years later. She wasn’t the same as she had always been. She was hardened now, depressed, angry at the world for what happened. But she had a job to do still. And as time went on, the village elected her to be the leader of it. She grew the village, making it stronger and safer from outside attackers, all while continuing her medical profession. People of all races from all realms came to see her as she became more and more experienced. She was a profound doctor, and when needed, a warrior. Her name spread, and she became far more popular than she would like. But had it not been for that one day, Morya would never be the person she is known as today. For as much praise as she had, there was just as much controversy to be had with her. Either way, that one even gave her the name she has now. It took all but one day to change her life forever.

(If I need to change anything to fit the lore better, let me know, and I’ll happily do so. I wasn’t really sure what to do, but I wanted to make her special enough that her being in the Ninth Commission made sense. The village war thing would be on a small part of the realm, by the way. So it’s not the entire realm, but a little fraction of it.)
