I am posting this starter (titled The Return) to try and get things started again. Wish me luck.

    THE RETURN
Alex Caine was tired of being the normal guy out of all his friends. He had been there for them consistently for the past five years and was weary from the constant fight. His childhood friend had found out she was a half-blood sorceress from an old line of seers and casters. His late ex-girlfriend was no more human than the neighbor's annoying schnauzer. And the main member of his friends had been 'cursed' with above normal abilities and healing. This led to short tempers and shorter fuses. He had learned, after their deaths, that his parents were not related to him, and he now was heading somewhere away from the only life he knew.

At a stopover between the small Midwest town he had always called home and somewhere west, he answered the call of someone being attacked. Ten fifteen at night and nothing much in this part of town, he came across what appeared to be a seven foot half gorilla/half mantis attempting a late snack. Without even thinking, Alex clenched a fist and uttered "llaberif". A fireball the size of a grapefruit hurtled at the creature, sending it screaming away in pain. Its intended snack, a woman in her 30s, gathered her stuff and shakily thanked him before running away herself.

Looking at his hands, he wondered where that had come from. He had never been anything but normal as long as he could recall. Heading back to the bus depot, he reclaimed his seat and proceeded to pass out . He would know where he was going when he got there.

The bus pulled up to the station in San Fransisco and Xander grabbed his little bit of gear and headed for the closest burger place. The long ride had him hungry and he was still trying to figure out why he was here and where he was heading.
After a good meal at Burger Palace, he headed towards the Bay. A friendly cabbie offered him a ride-business was slow-and refused to charge.
"Where ya headin', friend?" the driver asked.
"Not sure exactly. I just feel that the Bay area is where I need to be."
    "The Bay it is, then"
After about 20 minutes, Xander said "Here! That house is where I'm heading. Let me off here."
"That place? I've heard some unusual stories about what goes on there. Three women, living by themselves; explosions, police involvement, Halloween pranks out of season that go way over and beyond. Are you sure about this? I know a good soup kitchen, or even a nice club or two that could use some extra help." he offered.
"No, but thanks. I just have a feeling this is where I was heading to."
"Your funeral, friend. Just watch your back." With that, he left as soon as Xander was on the sidewalk with his gear.

He walked up to the house and started to knock. The door opened on its own, and a small black and white cat exited. It took one look at Xander and purred as it wove back and forth through his feet.

It was a typical morning at the Caine house. The sisters had been living alone here for quite some time. Tabitha had been up for a while. As usual and cooked breakfast. The was the youngest sister and the mischievous one. She had her Raven hair up in a ponytail and had already made herself cute for the day. Her sisters liked to sleep in but not her. Lana was coming down the stairs in her PJs still when they heard a car door.

Lana shot back up the stairs calling to Tabitha. "I'll wake big sis. You 'welcome our guest'." Tabitha smiled going to the door and opening it before the guest could knock transforming into a black and white cat. Purring she weaved her way between his legs. He looked familiar but she couldn't place it. Kaitlyn came down the stairs dressed up. She was tall and not just for a woman Lana inviaiinv in the shadows behind her. "Come in, Come in. What can I do for you today ah....?" She paused for a name then looked at his feet. "Tabitha move before you trip the poor man!" Tabitha meowed and ran into the living room resting on the back of a high backed chair. As Kaitlyn gestured towards the living room.
Lana slipped around to the kitchen and prepared two trays for them and rematerialized and came out with them towards the living room.

Xander suddenly feeling the weight of the last few years hit him. the fatigue, anxiety, weariness, and eventually to cap it all off-his supposed 'friends' whom he had saved countless times(even helped them save the world twice) had kicked him to the curb, with a not so veiled threat of bodily harm to his person if he wasn't elsewhere after 24 hours.
Being somewhere, here, where he knew he was safe; his body and mind shut down as he collapsed across the threshold. Although he showed no serious external signs of his ordeals, Xander bore the internal scars from the rejection as well as the spiritual and mental fatigue of everything all at once. It would be a little bit before he was coherent again.

Tabitha watched in fear and Lana dropped the tray and it crashed to the floor. "Kat wait," Kaitlyn paused before approaching him. "He has mother's brow and nose. Could it be?" Kaitlyn stepped forward quickly placing her hand on his forehead reading Him. "It's him." Tabitha jumped off the back of the chair and transformed into a large wolf and they layed him across her back and she headed upstairs towards the extra room. Kaitlyn followed as Lana glanced around outside before shutting the door and heading back into the kitchen to make a potion and soup for their long lost brother. Tabitha changed back to human and they laid him to bed and then changed back to kitty and laid herself next to him as Kaitlyn sat next to the bed. "Now what brought you home?" She pulled out one of her many books and began scyring to see if she could figure something out.

As his body slowly recovered, Xander's mind replayed in theater style the past few years. Looking back and watching from this new vantage, he was able to see what had happened and when things started going down hill. Erin, the leader of his friends had let her abilities and power go to her head. This eventually led to her claiming he was unnecessary in the group. Before leaving town, he had stopped at the local underworld bar to rescind most of his protection. The exception was Erin's mother, who had been more of a mother than the woman that raised him. She had allowed his drunk of a stepfather to abuse them both. Free from any need for restraint, he let loose and put Thomas Aaronson in the hospital-surprisingly enough, the cops refused to press charges. Alicia finally broke down and packed, leaving to move back to Houston with her mother.
When this was over, Xander had been unconscious for three hours. He slowly came to on a somehow familiar couch, with a purring cat curled on his chest.
Blinking, he sat up slowly. "Kit?" The cat stretched and looked at him as if to say 'of course, who else?'
"Then, this is..." he stopped, not quite clear yet-but something was coming back in bits and pieces.

It'd been years since she'd been called Kit. Tabitha just smiled inwardly and continued to play the part for now. Kaitlyn was too busy still to look up but thankfully Lana had finished with cleaning the first mess and making her stuff and came in with a new tray with soup and potion. "Yes. Welcome home." She smiled and set the tray down on his lap shoeing Tabitha away as she took a sniff at it. "You must have had a long journey. But what might have brought you here? I didn't think you remembered." Kaitlyn came out of her trance at this point and shut her book but remained silent and watched and listened to see what he truly remember.

"What I remember? Raised by an abusive drunk and a powerless female, in a place called Sueños Perdidos. (Lost Dreams)
Connected with a fellow student destined as a Protector, she let things go to her head after a few apocalypses were averted and kicked me out of the group and town accusing me of being useless. Next time some upstart hell-fiend decides to eat the citizens to power his attempts at becoming more unstoppable, she can come up with all the good ideas on her own. The ungrateful upstart ended the friendship by threatening bodily harm if I wasn't out of town within 24 hours." he replied as he stroked Kit's fur. "By the way, since when does an antique grandfather clock strike 13, and not even on the hour?"

Lana placed the tray on his lap and stepped back silently listening.this time Kaitlyn spoke up. "Sounds like a rough life. I'm sorry to hear it. The question is do you remember anything of here? You seemed to remember Kit. What led you to come here? Do you know?" Lana stood just watching and tabitTa climbed back up next to him nuzzling him. Kaitlyn sat straight an authoritative air about her but not overbearing.

"About home? Not much. Mainly the strong sense of the familiar, safety and security, belonging. Everything is returning slowly. I have this almost graspable memory of my sisters. I was only three when they took me away, that much I know for fact. And a little girl, a couple of years older than me, crying when I left. What happened to our family? Does anyone know why we were separated?" he asked as he looked around, A firm sense of 'Right" in just being there with them. "Wait. Someone is missing. I only see two of my sisters. Where is.... Tabitha? Lana. Kaitlyn. Kit." A thought hit him and he looked once again at the cat next to him. "I don't seem to ever recall seeing Kit and Tabitha together. I am missing something important here."
