    Yellow Plague OOC Thread

      • Your character must be accepted before they can join the IC thread.
      • This is an advanced RP, so I expect everyone to put some effort into their responses. I'm not asking for paragraphs on paragraphs, I just want enough description and detail so that the reader can visualize your character's thoughts and emotions, and what is happening around them. There are times when I will write many paragraphs, but this does not mean I expect the same from all of you, so please don't get intimidated by it. I will always value quality over quantity.
      • Please don't god mod, or control other characters / make decisions for them. Leave it open ended for the other character(s) or discuss with the RPer OOC so you aren't stepping on anyone's toes.
      • Lastly, try to give everyone a turn. For the characters interacting in a scene, try to post round robin style. Nobody likes to get left out or skipped over. Obviously, if there are multiple scenes going on, you don't have to wait on other scenes. However do keep in mind the overall time (morning, afternoon, night, etc). We need to try and keep everyone on the same day and general time so the RP doesn't get confusing.

    • Fresno, California
      [IMG]

To start, the location of this RP will be the general Fresno, California area. Fresno itself is a small to medium sized city. Its downtown area is located to the south, which contains businesses and a number of office buildings. It sports an airport, and contains a handful of counties surrounding the central city. The majority of Fresno is made up of a TON of homes and suburban areas. This extends a good 10 miles to the north, and about 5 to 7 miles to the east and west. South of the city is strange in the way that the urban setting quickly gives way to rural farmland. This is mainly due to the southern area having a wide spread of industrialization, making it undesirable for the housing market. Surrounding all of this is a large expanse of farmland and rural areas.

Fresno is bordered to the east and northeast by the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. These snow capped mountains are tall and wide, standing only about 40 miles from the city limits. The west side of the mountains is covered by trees and foliage, but this quickly shifts into dry, barren desert over the crest and to the east. About 100 Miles to the northwest lies the California city trio: San Francisco, Sacramento, and San Jose. This is a very densely populated and well known area of California. To the South of Fresno, just past the end of the mountain range about 200 miles away, is the city of Los Angeles. Known for its celebrities and beaches, LA is another large population hub. Lastly, to the west 100 miles away lies the Pacific Ocean. This vast expanse of water serves as a blockade for anyone without access to a boat. Our survivors will find themselves faced with challenges in any direction they choose to travel. Even if they stay put, Fresno itself has a high population boasting of 512,000 people in 2018. It is the 34th largest city in the United States, and is sure to be a death trap in many ways.

At the beginning of the roleplay, the setting will be centered around a military occupied zone in the suburbs. It is up to you whether your characters are within this community, just outside the area, or en route to the location. It won't matter too much, because after the first one or two posts and everyone's characters are set, the community is going to fall. This will probably be the hardest part of the RP to coordinate between us. At this point it will only be about 3 weeks after the initial outbreak, and I estimate only about 50% to 60% of the population will be killed or infected. That means there will be a lot of survivors, and a lot of chaos. Our characters will need to escape the shit-storm (I imagine in two or three groups) and then happen to meet up over the course of the next few RP days. During this time I do not want anyone RPing by themselves (unless of course, you want to have your character alone). I say this because I don't want characters to be left behind, and for anyone to be forced to write and monologue without a partner. This can be boring for that person, and cause them to abandon the roleplay. This means we will need to do some planning for the overrun of the community, at least enough so that we know which characters will be splitting up and escaping with whom. All said though, I think this will turn out to be one of the (hopefully many) highlights of the RP, because of everything that can and will happen during the ensuing chaos. :D

    • The characters in this universe did not have the concept of a "Zombie" prior to the outbreak. The word doesn't exist, and so survivors have given their own unique names to the infected. (Be creative!)

Infected hosts are lethal, and a force to be reckoned with both alone and especially in groups. As the RP progresses the disease will progress as well. The turned will have minor changes physically as the infection takes over, but more importantly, they will change their behavior too. More detail can be found in "The Infection" tab. To start out, the hosts will be more or less mindless, hungry beasts intent on killing and spreading the plague. These creatures do not walk or shamble after prey. They are capable of running, and will use their full strength when necessary.

      Backstory
The Yellow Plague is a mutated strain of Cordyceps, a parasitic fungus that infects living insect hosts and utilizes them to spread and grow. Five years ago in 2014, researchers found a scientific basis for the use of various strains of Cordyceps in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Soon after this discovery was published, a Japanese pharmaceutical company known as Ghentu began cultivation of these Cordyceps strains for drug trials. Within the year, Ghentu was manufacturing a number of pharmaceuticals which included Cordyceps spores as the primary ingredient. Ghentu produced medicines for kidney disease, immune system boosters, aphrodisiacs, and antidepressants, among others. The drugs were highly effective, and over the course of the next four years they worked their way into hospitals and drug stores globally. To meet with the rapidly growing demand, Ghentu began genetically modifying the strains to grow faster and increase their resilience, creating new strains that produced more bountiful harvests and could be used for stronger medications. Ghentu was making billions, and patients were receiving cheap, yet highly effective medicine for their ailments. Everyone was happy; that is, until April 5 of 2019, when the initial outbreak occurred.

A few months prior to this date, Ghentu was continuing their genetic research with their Cordyceps strains, attempting to solve a problem. Many patients' immune systems were beginning to fight off the spores, rendering the drug ineffective. To correct this, scientists cultivated the fungi cells with human blood, engineering the fungi so that the human body wouldn't reject the foreign spores. In doing this however, they made a terrible mistake: they inadvertently altered the Cordyceps strains such that the dormant Fungi spores were capable of infecting humans. On top of this, Ghentu cut corners. They didn't properly test the new formula before distribution.

The Cordyceps strain was used in a wide variety of medicines globally. Because of the genetic modifications, it was fast growing, highly resilient in most climates, and now it was infectious. The result was catastrophic. By the time doctors traced the cause of the infections back to Ghentu, it was too late. A recall was issued for the drugs, but since the pharmaceuticals were available over the counter, too many people had taken them, and even after the issued recall people who didn't know we're still taking the drugs. As a result, ground zero of the outbreak was everywhere.

Hospitals were filled with patients trying to get treated, but doctors neither understood how to cure them, or the danger that infected individuals presented. The infected became hyper aggressive, and the hospitals were the first to fall. After that, everything else was a domino effect. With a shortage of doctors and treatment facilities, the infection would spread like wildfire. Governments would collapse into anarchy, armies would be overrun, cities would be bombed, and billions would die or turn.

      Welcome to the apocalypse.

    • This section contains everything that has been discovered about the Yellow Plague and its hosts thus far. This will be edited as the RP progresses, so keep an eye on it. I will make announcements when I update it.

      Infection Cliff Notes
      • Spores enter the bloodstream
      • The fungi infects the lungs either instantly (if spores were inhaled), or up to four hours after a bite.
      • 12-24 hours after lung infection, the mouth and gums show yellow spots as spores take root.
      • Anywhere from 16-36 hours after the compromise of the lungs, the infected begins exhibiting small, involuntary muscle ticks.
      • 10-24 hours after muscle ticks develop, infected victims grow irritated and angry. The onset of numbness is felt in their extremities.
      • About 3-8 hours after numbness begins to spread, the victim grows forgetful and becomes physically aggressive. Infected individuals experience partial loss of voluntary body control and will lash out randomly. By this point in the infection, the fungus will be coating the large portions of the mouth, and mycelium may even be creeping out from the lips.
      • Once agression and loss of muscle control set in, it takes 1-2 hours for the victim to be mentally overtaken by the fungus. At this point, the infected has progressed fully into Stage 1 of the Yellow Plague.
      • ???

      Infection Stages
Stage 0 of the Yellow Plague is characterized by an infected human who still has cognitive function. The person is infected by the fungus, but has not yet lost their mind to the disease. They may have a visible fungal infection in their mouths. Symptoms of coughing and muscle ticks can be observed during this period, as well as mood changes near the end of Stage 0.
Once the spores enter the bloodstream of an individual, the infection process begins. The spores travel through the blood, latching onto the walls of the victim's veins and eventually take root in the lungs. Once it gains an initial foothold here, the fungi reproduces rapidly. This is because the lungs are dark, they contain ample moisture and oxygen, and provide space for the fungi to grow. Coughing is the first symptom, and it is the only symptom at this stage. Because the spores were crafted by Ghentu to be accepted by the body, there is no immune response. This means there is no associated fever, nausea, or drowsiness like other diseases. Early Yellow Plague infection is impossible tell apart from a normal cough or cold.

Once the fungi is established in the lungs it multiplies rapidly, dispersing throughout the bloodstream and latching onto the walls of the victim's veins. The spores infest the brain stem and begin hijacking the nervous system. This leads to the second symptom: involuntary ticks and muscle spasms. Additionally, the coughing assists the fungus in spreading up the victim's throat and into their mouth. Initially the spores take root in the gums, then spread up to the teeth, along the cheeks and tongue, and across the roof of the mouth. Once the fungi has infested the mouth, bites from the infected can spread the plague if the teeth break skin and come in contact with the bloodstream.

The infected are not yet aggressive however. This is the next symptom of the plague, after the mycelium has had a chance to grow along the brain stem and burrow into the cerebral tissue. At this point, the fungus begins to take further control of the nervous system, starving oxygen from the rest of the brain at the same time. As this progresses, the infected individual becomes impulsive, angry, and aggressive. Numbness will set in. Logic, memory, and all other emotion quickly disappear. The only thing left at the end of this process is an instinctual beast, hell bent on spreading the plague to keep the fungi alive.
Infected in Stage 1 of the Yellow Plague have lost their minds to the disease. Because of the infestation of the spores in their brain, they have no memories of friends or family. They do not feel emotion other than anger, and their pain tolerance is abnormally high due to numbness. Stage 1 infected are characterized by the yellow covering of fungus creeping from their mouths, spreading down their chin and neck, as well as out across their cheeks and up into their hairline. The infected's skin dons a yellowed hue, particularly along the veins, as do the whites of the eyes. This is caused by the concentration of fungus in the bloodstream.

While no longer human, these infected are still alive. They wheeze as they attempt to inhale air through the mycelium that coats their lungs, and they bleed thick, yellow coagulated blood when injured. Instead of healing like a wound normally would, the fungus reacts by expanding and filling the gap in the skin, which plugs the wound and halts the leakage. Stage 1 infected can still die from bleeding out, heart stoppage, or even suffocation; however it takes about 2-3 times as long for death to occur compared to a human. An infected host's blood is thicker and slower, which decreases the rate of bleeding, and the host's body requires less oxygen to function since the majority of the human brain has been killed off.
      ???
      ???

In the event of host death, the fungus itself does not die. Instead it continues growing, using the host carcass as a source of nutrition. The flesh is broken down and consumed by the fungus, which grows to encompass the entire body. Ascomata sprout and grow in higher concentration, at a faster rate than when the host was alive. These dead bodies become a breeding ground for Yellow Plague spores, assisting in the pollution of the air and the infection of healthy individuals.

      Infected Host Behavior
      • Infected hosts act individually. Hosts do not react to other Yellow Plague victims when passing by, and do not respond to noises or signals from them.
      • ???
      • When prey is spotted or heard, the infected charges hungrily, running at the target without regard to anything else.
      • ???
      • Infected hosts have been seen to fight over the carcass of a fresh kill.
      • ???
      • When encountering an obstacle, the infected always attempt to use brute force to bypass it, throwing their body weight around and using their hands to smash and claw at the object or surface
      • ???
      • Infected hosts cant climb
      • ???
      • Infected hosts can not swim
      • ???
      • When not actively pursuing prey, Yellow Plague hosts shamble around aimlessly, sometimes walking in circles, or just standing still in an open area.
      • ???
      • The infected are attracted to noises and movement
      • ???

Here is the OOC thread! I added some more info regarding the infection. Take a look at the timeline, and let me know if you think the timescale is alright. I'm happy to adjust it if something seems unrealistic, or might suit the RP better.

Also, feel free to drop your character sheets here and I'll give them a look over for approval. Don't worry, I'm not going to be super anal or picky about them. I'm mainly just making sure there aren't any OP characters, and that there is enough background and information about them in the CS.

Body type: Lightly toned and curvy

Employment pre-apocalypse: RN at a privately owned pediatric clinic

Personality: Intelligent, stubborn, but selfless. Can't help but care for others.

    Strengths:

    • Medical training
    • Physically fit; above average cardio and endurance skills
    • Knows how to use different guns and always had good aim at the range; but she's never shot at moving targets

    Weaknesses:

    • Lack of survival skills
    • Too trusting
    • Can't hunt
    • Will put others before her own safety

Background: Everyone knows her as "Kitty". No one calls her by her formal name except for her father, Robert, and her significant other, Tucker.

Kitty's mother died when Kitty was only four years old, leaving her to be raised by her father. Robert Dawson was only a beat cop then, but he worked hard and soon became a detective, and later went on to make Chief.

Robert was gruff, but kind, and he adored his daughter. Kitty returned his affections, growing into a bit of a tomboy. She was raised with firearms in the house, and Robert made sure she knew how to use them.
But mostly, Kitty took care of him and the house.

Just before Kitty went off to college to get her nursing degree, Robert introduced her to his new protegé, Tucker Richart.
Kitty didn't have much time for him, but once her degree had been earned and she was back home, she found that Tucker and her father had grown close. The trio spent so much time together, it wasn't much of a surprise when Kitty and Tucker started dating.

Kitty got a job at a local pediatric clinic, Tucker was quickly becoming as well respected as his mentor, and Robert retired, only to be diagnosed with cancer.
Robert's health deteriorated quickly. In less than a year, he had to be hospitalized. He was still there when the Yellow Plague took over.
In the following madness, Kitty and Tucker were separated.

    Age: 30

    Height: 5'9"

    Body type: Lean and muscled

    Employment pre-apocalypse: Cop

Personality: Sarcastic and distrusting. Fiercely loyal and protective.

    Strengths:

    • Excellent marksmanship
    • Knows how to live without societal comforts from his years on the streets
    • Quick sprinter but not as great over long distances
    • Strong, basic hand to hand combat skills

    Weaknesses:

    • His honor as a cop died with the world; in this new world it's every man for himself
    • Not the best at making allies
    • Suffers from random and debilitating migraines
    • Kate

Background: Tucker "Tuck" Richart grew up in the south, evident by the lilting accent in his warm voice. Tuck grew up in a broken and abusive household on the poor side of town. His older brother ran away from home when Tuck was ten, and the moment he could, Tuck followed suit.

At 18, Tucker didn't have much education or marketable skills. He slept where he could and had no qualms stealing to keep hunger at bay.
That is, until he got caught. Robert Dawson could have thrown him in jail, but instead he took him under his wing.
Robert helped Tuck get his G.E.D. and then got him into the police academy. He provided everything Tuck couldn't provide for himself and pulled strings to ger Tuck place in his department.

In return, Tuck worked his ass off and earned every little thing Robert gave him. With Robert's help, Tuck turned his life around. He was the kind of father Tuck had always yearned for.
When he met Kitty, he couldn't help but be smitten. She was on her way to college, but Tuck never forgot about her. He worked harder to be the kind of man Robert would be proud to have around his beloved daughter.

It turned out, he needn't have worried. When Kitty came home, they hit it off and Robert was thrilled.
They were both succeeding in life and falling more in love.
But all good things must come to an end.

Tragedy struck, Robert was hospitalized, and not long after the world fell to pieces. Tuck lost the person he cared most about, and he spent every day since trying to find her.

    Portrayed by Kyra Keli

    Age: 27
    Height: 5'8"
    Weight: 130 lbs
Prior Occupation: Vegas Showgirl / Model

    Strengths:
    • Casey is beautiful, and she is perfectly capable of taking advantage of her looks. She has ample experience flirting with men, and won't shy away from attention.
    • Casey has had to stay fit to maintain her body. Because of all the cardio she's done, the woman has a decent amount of endurance.
    • Casey has a high emotional intelligence. When it comes to feelings, she is good at relating with others, and usually knows what words or actions are needed in various emotional situations.
    Weaknesses:
    • Casey has no survival skills. She has never been camping, never shot a gun, and never cleaned or prepared any sort of animal before. She is squeamish around blood, and has no idea what to do when it comes to treating injuries apart from bandaging them.
    • Casey is not strong. Out of all the time she's spent at the gym, the majority of it was used for doing cardio. Strength training wasn't something she thought she needed, and so the girl never really tried building any muscle.
    • Casey isn't fast. She hasn't ever practiced sprinting, nor does she know good form when running.
    • As stereotypes go, Casey isn't all that smart. She isn't an idiot, and she has common sense and social skills. However, when it comes to anything remotely related to book smarts (Math, History, Technology, Anatomy, etc) she just doesn't understand. Because of this, Casey isn't a strategist. When she makes decisions they tend to be based on her gut and emotions, occasionally along with shallow logic.
    • Casey isn't brave. She isn't a complete coward, but she certainly won't be the one to volunteer for risky missions or stick her neck out for those she doesn't know well. When faced with a dire circumstance, fear and nerves could easily overcome her, causing the woman to freeze up.
    Family:
    Mother: Marie Bucolo (45)
    Father: Robert Bucolo (48)
    Siblings: Victoria Bucolo (20)

    Personality:
Casey has an expressive personality. She will speak her mind if confronted directly, but doesn't typically provoke others or initiate conflict. Casey can be snide at times, and tends to carry a bit of an ego around due to her previous role as a rather popular model and showgirl. If anyone gets on her bad side, she will hold a grudge, and can grow passive aggressive towards that person rather quickly. Casey can also be deceptive and misleading. When it comes to survival, she is willing to lie to save her ass, or throw someone she doesn't like under the bus to avoid an undesirable outcome. She knows how to play people and has a somewhat of a skill when it comes to politics.

On the flip side though, Casey can be very friendly to those she gets along with. She will laugh and joke with friends, and when in a good mood the girl can transform into a bubbly glow. She has a kind and caring nature, and is more than willing to try and help where she can. Friends are important to her, and she enjoys building relationships. She is loyal and open to those she bonds with. When it comes to males, Casey tends to be rather flirtatious by nature, and this has often caused her to inadvertently lead men on in the past.

Overall, Casey is a kind, flirty girl with a hidden and nasty manipulative side to her. She is hard set on surviving, and will use whatever tools and skills she has available to stay living and uninfected.

    History:
Casey was beautiful from a young age, and she knew it. She was popular in high school, turning heads in the hallways and wearing things that caused talks to be had with the principal. She was outgoing and rebellious, sneaking out to drink and party with friends, and never spent much time studying for exams. As soon as she was 18, the girl began taking modeling gigs for magazines and teen apparel. To the slight disappointment of her parents she didn't attempt to apply for college after graduating high school, but they never fully expected her to attend a university in the first place. Casey was beginning to make some decent money without a degree anyway, and after a couple years she'd saved up enough to move out at the young age of 21.

Casey wanted to make it big, so she packed her things and moved to Las Vegas. Finally free from the roof and watchful eye of her parents, she was able to take on more risque jobs. She started as a street girl, wearing peacock feathers and a skimpy outfit, walking around the strip with another girl and taking photos with tourists. Before long, she caught the eye of a few business men and found herself working in a nightclub. It was fun at first, and she certainly enjoyed the attention she got and the money she made, but after a while Casey grew tired of having to deal with drunk, disrespectful, and disgusting clientele. Not all of them fit in that category, but enough did to cause her to search for other opportunities. She'd come here to make a name for herself, and she wasn't about to sit back satisfied with a stripping career. Using the money she'd earned, Casey invested in an agent, and he was able to put her exactly where she wanted to be.

The brunette starred in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit magazines, modeled some lingerie outfits for Victoria's Secret, and did a couple of photo shoots with Penthouse. She eventually made it onto the cover of The Cosmopolitan magazine, and even starred as a ring girl in a number of high profile boxing and UFC fights. She wasn't exactly Hollywood famous, but the woman had a following. She became rather wealthy, with a nice house and car, owning a variety of expensive outfits and accessories to wear. Throughout the years she'd dated a large number of guys, but never did she stick around with them for too long. She didn't marry any, and stayed single for long periods of time, just enjoying the life of a bachelorette model.

When the outbreak hit, Casey was on vacation in Santa Cruz, California. She was enjoying the beach when her first experience with the Yellow Plague occurred. Down the beachfront, she noticed a couple of people were running towards the shore from the streets. Then, one of them tackled another person, and another did the same. Her first thought was that they knew each other, but that idea quickly dissolved as chaos erupted. People started running and screaming, and the strange individuals got up and began chasing other people. Lifeguards ran in, and she watched one of them get bitten in the arm by another person. The attacker was kicked off, and the lifeguard retreated bleeding as the enraged man attacked someone else. Casey didn't stay for the police to arrive, she didn't stand around and watch like a number of people did. Instead she quickly made her way back to the condo, trying to make sense of what she'd just seen. Unbeknownst to her, the worst was yet to come.

@Olivia's Scandal Your characters look good! The only thing I would like for you to add is a section that lists out some of their strengths and weaknesses. You can look at my character sheet for an example. Once you do that they should be good to go.

Also, as I was writing up my first character, I realized I neglected to provide any information about the location or time period for the start of the roleplay. I will add this info into a new tab shortly, but we will start the RP in the Fresno California area. I'm thinking the timeline will be about 2 or 3 weeks after a national alert has been issued for the outbreak, and the US military has been mobilized. What do you guys think about starting in a small community setup by the military, to get things rolling? I'd like the RP to start near the beginning of the outbreak, where people don't fully understand what is going on. I'm also open to other ideas for a start to the RP.

I have filled out the Location tab in the Information Post! Hopefully this will give you guys a better idea of the initial setting for the RP. Keep in mind, the plot is completely open to our decisions. We don't have to stay in the Fresno area. The survivors can try to relocate either long or short distance. It all depends how the RP goes. I suggest using Google Earth just to get a better idea of the general surroundings. I think it would be too much to use actual locations of houses and grocery stores and street names and stuff like that, but it would help just to get a grasp of the setting and what might be found around the area.

Equipment: Malakai is a man constantly prepping for 'doomsday' after learning of the disturbing use of anti-virals and fungal medications, and lacking a little in the supply department he began to purchase weapons and ammunition to keep at home as his miniscule pay allowed.. Which means he managed to procure the following items: One AR-15 Assault rifle in tactical configuration; one army ammo can of 5.56x45 NATO rounds and three 30 rounds magazines. One six inch combat blade. His side arm: a MARSOC .45 with four magazines of ammo and no spares yet. One large duffel with three changes of clothing and an extra set of boots set aside. Small supply of medical gear is stuffed into the duffel as well as items other might find completely useless: An ipod touch with his music collection, although he DOES realize that recharging the thing would be almost impossible should shit hit the fan. (I'll explain this funny detail in game, but he has an almost obsession with hotwiring cars with IPOD capabilities just to recharge the device).
Other Notes: Yes he is covered in tattoos and will continue to dress in the manner seen in above pictures. Yes he'll have the snakebites in his lip, afterall this is REALLY early post outbreak, right? No time to think about changing fashion to meet current issues hehehe.

    Strengths
    • Prior Army combat experience including marksman training and hand to hand combat.
    • Technologically savvy.
    • Fast on his feet - he can outrun most people for short distances.
    • Extremely athletic - free running used to be a past time before an injury in the military, but he has the ability to ignore pain with enough adrenalin to get out of a bad situation.
    • Selfless - Malakai cites himself as a man with nothing to lose.. So he'd rather save others at the cost of himself if that's what it took.
    Weaknesses
    • Suffers from PTSD and extreme anxiety: excessive gun fire, stress or explosions lock him up into panic / hyperventilating episodes. (He's medicated for it, however once those run dry controlling the episodes could be an issue)
    • He's shorter than some and suffers a 'short man complex' .. As such he has a temper to match.
    • Drugs and alcohol he will not shy away from.
    • At times, he can be a 'reckless party boy' and lose sight of common sense.
    • Physical strength is lacking due to stature. He's athletic, toned, however slender and lean.
    • Bullet injuries to the right shoulder renders that limb weaker than usual and constantly sore / occasionally flared with extreme pain due to nerve damage.
    • He smokes.
    • He never learned how to swim.

History: Malakai was deployed to Afghanistan in Fall of 2013 as part of the Army's 3rd Infantry Division Combat Aviation Brigade....(WIP still recovering)

    Harold Morison

    Portrayed by Joseph Mosner

    Age: 47
    Height: 5'11"
    Weight: 210 lbs
Prior Occupation: Retired US Army Veteran

    Strengths:
    • Military Training. Harold knows how to properly use a gun, and is a good shot when it comes to marksmanship. He is trained in hand to hand combat, and knows a good deal about survival from his academy education.
    • Harold knows how to hunt and prepare meat. Hunting was a pastime of his before and after the military. He is decent at tracking animals and laying traps for them.
    Weaknesses:
    • Harold has a very shot fuse. He expects respect to be given, and orders to be followed. His militarized personality can cause him to come off as cold and callous, and he can get aggressive when angry.
    • Harold is a glass half empty kind of man. He is not trusting, and will always doubt the abilities of others until they've adequately proven themselves. Harold tends to dwell on the worst case scenario. He is grumpy and bitter, and is much better at lowering moral than he is at raising it.
    • The vet has fallen out of shape. It's been just over 16 years since he was in the military, and since going into retirement on disability, he hasn't kept up with the training regimen.
    • Harold can't hear out of his left ear, and he can't raise his left arm up past his shoulder. Both a result of the wartime explosion he sustained which took him out of action.
    • He smokes and needs his regular nicotine fix, otherwise he gets shaky and agitated.
    Family:
    Mother: Beatrice Morison (Deceased)
    Father: Daniel Morison (79)
    Wife: Abigail Morison (45)
Children: Kyle Morison (20), Lilly Morison (18), Nancy Morison (15)

    Personality:
Harold has a hard core. He is stern and militant, and isn't very friendly. Harold wasn't always this way, but the war changed him, both physically and mentally. After 5 tours in Iraq, the last of which ended in half his face and arm getting blown off, the soft and gentle side of Harold disappeared. Left behind is a callous, grumpy, and short tempered personality.

The only thing the soldier really cares about is protecting his family, and he will put everything on his shoulders for them. Harold will do absolutely anything to keep them safe. He would go to Hell and back and lay his life down if it meant they would live another day, no questions asked, and no hesitation. If his family is threatened, or in danger, the Sargent can be a very dangerous man.

Harold has no trust for strangers. He is not the kind to put faith in someone who hasn't yet proven themselves. He has no interest in making friends for the sake of friendship. All Harold is looking for in this new world are allies; allies that contribute to the group in some way, and aren't a liability to their safety. He has no qualms confronting anyone for any reason. If someone fucks up, he will get in their face and yell at them for it. If he thinks someone is soft, he will personally whip them into shape. To him, this new world is a world for soldiers. He knows only the tough and the lucky survive war. If anyone has any chance against the plague, it's those with grit and perseverance.

    History:
Harold went into the army straight out of high school. After four years of training, his first tour in Iraq was at 22 years old. Since then, he's been overseas fighting the insurgency a total of 5, 15 month tours. At 31, while traveling along the road in a platoon, shots were fired at the soldiers. They took cover and returned fire, just like any other incident he had encountered previously. This time however, a grenade was thrown in his direction. Harold was behind a short wall with two other men and a woman, all in his squad. The explosive landed at their feet. Acting on instinct, the Sargent grabbed the grenade in his hand and turned to toss it back. Unfortunately the fuse was too short, and the device exploded just after throwing it. Harold saved the lives of those three soldiers, and in turn they got him out. He was dragged to safety and evacuated from the fight.

The explosion did some serious damage to his left side. His arm was ripped apart, but quick surgery saved it. He only ended up losing his ring finger, lost on the battlefield. His shoulder needed metal rods to support the bone, and after surgery his mobility was reduced, preventing him from lifting the arm up past his shoulder. Lastly, his left ear was ruptured, and Harold would no longer be able to hear from it. The heavy scarring on his face, arm and torso is a constant reminder to him of the danger of war.

Because of the hearing loss and reduced mobility of his arm, Sargent Morison was respectfully discharged from duty on May 15th of 2003. Since then, he has been living in Fresno, California with his wife and three kids. When the outbreak hit and the military eventually rolled in, they were lucky enough to be located in the community that was set up in the suburbs. After 16 years of retirement, Harold put on his uniform again to assist the soldiers in any way he could.

I've accepted your characters and added them as a threadmark!

@DisplacedAnger @FridayWolf13 How many characters are you two going to start with? Just so I know when you guys are ready and we can start the RP. I still need to make one more character so don't feel too rushed.

Yeah, for sure. I'm currently waiting for @FridayWolf13 to put their two characters up, because my last character is going to be related to one of Friday's. I need to be able to choose a face claim that looks similar and have a background that coincides with Friday's character.

Once Friday gets those sheets up and I make my last one, we can get started. If it takes much longer I suppose we could also just start the RP and Friday can jump in once they are ready. I've been itching to start the RP as well.

Hey guys!! I'm so sorry about the wait, work has me on odd hours that I'm not used to, so it's throwing off my hours to write! Here are the face claims I'll be using for my characters, my female being 25 years old and my male being 32 (though that may change by a year or two as I finish up their bios). Male face claim is subject to change but female is not, she is a definite.

    Jack Thompson
    Portrayed by Froy Gutierrez

    Age: 19
    Height: 5'9"
    Weight: 175 lbs
Prior Occupation: College Athlete at ???

    Strengths:
    • Fast and in great shape
    • Strong for his size
    Weaknesses:
    • Overconfident in his abilities
    • Has never been an attentive listener, in or out of class
    Family:
    Mother: Katherine Thompson (45)
    Father: Allen Thompson (49)
    Siblings: Emily Thompson (26)

    Personality:
Jack is brash. Being a college superstar since first day freshman year could cause anyone's ego to inflate. Jack is confident and can easily come off as cocky, and a little arrogant. He exaggerates a lot, and tends to overestimate his abilities when it comes to strength and endurance. This flaw gives him a driven mindset though, and allows him to push himself farther when exercising or training.

Jack loves to screw around and make jokes. One of his favorite past times is to give his sister trouble and push her buttons. He is goofy and energetic at heart, and tends to be very easy going. He is aloof and carefree to the point where he doesn't worry enough about things he probably should, and believes everything will just work out for him.

Overall, Jack is a good kid who lets his status go to his head. He looks up to his older sister despite teasing her, and values their relationship. He doesn't have an academic mindset, but he also isn't stupid, leaving him at an average intelligence.

    History:
Jack has played football all his life. Since grade school he has trained and worked hard to become a running back, and his speed on the field turned the heads of coaches and fans alike. The kid was one of the top running backs in the nation when he graduated high school, and this made him a high profile target for college recruiters. He received and accepted a full ride at ??? and has been a star at the university since day one. It seemed like everyone knew his name. He signed his name on footballs, in notebooks, on jerseys, and even on girls. Jack was swarmed by girls. He was a good looking athlete with a claim to fame. There weren't a whole lot of women who didn't want him for themselves.

Jack was living the life at college. He trained hard over the summer, and expected to start his sophomore year with a bang. He was going to do run more yards and score more touchdowns than he ever had, but that all changed with the outbreak. When everything really started going downhill, he was with his sister at ???

Will fill out the ??? symbols when I can get the appropriate info from Friday's female character

    Emily Thompson
    [IMG]

    Age: 26
    Height: 5’ 5”
    Weight: 128 lbs.
Prior Occupation: Kennel Supervisor, Homemade Hounds

    Strengths:
    • Persistence, Perseverance: determined to finish what she starts, set in her chosen course of action once she decides.
    • Compassionate, Altruistic: generous and fair in most aspects, when she’s not fighting for her survival, she can be incredibly kind and loyal.
    • Agile, Nimble-Limbed: lithe and with a thin layering of fine muscles from her steady work with large animals, she’s stronger and faster than she appears.
    Weaknesses:
    • Curiosity, Novelty-Seeking: despite her interest in the unknown and its having led her into danger more than once, she remains an explorative and impulsive individual when it comes to the strange world they live in.
    • Dishonest, Deceptive: a skill that further developed after the infected chaos began, Emily isn’t an open book and prefers to hold people at arms length - or convince them she’s not worth sticking around for.
    • No Weapons Knowledge: she’s held her fair share of weapons, guns included, but she was never extensively taught how to handle them, load them, or clean them, so most of her weapons are blades or blunt objects made for close combat.

    Family:

    Mother: Katherine Thompson (45)
    Father: Allen Thompson (49)
    Siblings: Jack Thompson (19)

    Logan Bailey
    [IMG]

    Age: 32
    Height: 5’ 11”
    Weight: 189 lbs.
    Prior Occupation: Forestry Department

    Strengths:
    • Integrity, Honesty: presents himself with little secrets about his intentions or goals, takes responsibility for the results of his actions no matter how immoral.
    • Social Intelligence, Awareness: extremely in-tune with the intentions of others, likely because of the honesty within himself, and insightful to the emotions of those around him.
    • Self-Control, Strength-of-Mind: regulates his emotions and actions and is disciplined in rationing food and other supplies to last himself as long as is needed to survive and acquire more.
    Weaknesses:
    • Impatient, Restless: someone who has to be frequently moving, doing something, and gaining something, Logan often grows irritable and detached when he’s made to wait too long or is trapped unwillingly in one place.
    • Short-sighted, Lacks Foresight: often jumps into action with little thought for the results, especially when the plan of action is long-term, and he has been known to abandon most plans, in the long run, either way, leaving his goals to fall into disarray.
    • Tactless, Unpredictable: not spectacular at speaking or being around people and not making a fool or criminal of himself, he tends to remain aloof but guarded, favoring isolation over community.
    Family:
    Mother: Morgan Bailey (61)
    Father: Jackson Bailey (68)

So, I'm thinking we can start up the RP tomorrow night? I'll start a thread with an intro post and introduce my characters, and you guys can do the same. Once all our characters are in place we can get rolling.

@DisplacedAnger you'll need to finish up Malakai's history before I can accept your character. And @FridayWolf13 you'll have to finish up your stuff too. From what I can tell I doubt there will be any issues with your characters, so I'll accept them once completed and after that you two can jump in.

@FridayWolf13 the only other thing I need for Jack's character sheet is location info and some background of where Emily was when the outbreak got bad, so I can have him be with her at the time. If you want to collaborate on this we can, or you can just lmk what you want it to be.
