Erika looked around her classroom briefly before grabbing her work keys and making sure her work badge was visible before turning to her students. "Alright everyone, line up, make sure you're standing with your buddy." She said to the young children in her classroom after they had gotten their backpacks and she had helped to make sure they didn't forget anything. Once her students were lined up and ready to go she ushered them out of the classroom and towards the front of the school building.

They were only a couple of weeks in, and she, like most of the teachers for the younger students, often walked their classes out to where the buses were and where parents could pick up their children to make sure the younger kids made it safely. She didn't mind it, she liked seeing her students off at the end of the day and making sure they were all okay. She also enjoyed seeing how excited they all were. Some were talking excitedly about their science project they had coming up. They had been talking about the difference of living and non-living things and she thought it would be fun for them to make little dioramas of a living thing in its habitat. To make it easy she had tried to make sure the students would have most of the supplies they needed in her classroom and made sure the students would get to learn enough about their selected animal...since that was what they had all chosen. It made her smile. Some of the other students were talking about play-dates they wanted their parents to agree on or some other fun thing that was going to happen. And others still were quiet. She made sure to keep an eye on all of them until they were either safely on a school bus or in their parents' car.

One of her students stood a little away from the group but close enough for Erika to still keep her in her sights. She had short light brown hair and light green hazel eyes. She had a light frown on her face as she waited for her father to pick her up. She was mostly a quiet child but lately she had been getting into fights with some of the other children, lashing outa bit more and more each day. Her eyes perked up and she smiled as she saw her fathers car pull up next to the sidewalk.

Putting thethe car in park and stepping out of the car Viktor smiled brightly as he saw Cynthia ready to run up and hug him, happily calling "Daddy" as she waited. Moving around the car he moved over to the group and knelt down as she ran over, opening his arms for her as she did. Viktor embraced his daughter and lifted her into his arms as he kissed her cheek. "Hey sweety. Did you have a good day at school?"

Cynthia shrugged lightly. "I guess so..." She didn't want to tell him that she had gotten into trouble during school.

Viktor looked up and saw Miss Erika standing with the rest of the children. Smiling warmly he walked over and shifted Cynthia into one arm while he extended his other in greeting. "You must be Cynthia's teacher. I'm Viktor Fredrickson. Cynthia has told me wonderful things about you."

Erika has been keeping an eye on Cynthia as she ran towards Viktor, but once she was satisfied that everything was okay, she had looked away. She only had one other student who was just now departing to get onto their late bus. She turned her attention to Viktor and returned his smiled as she took his hand. “It’s nice to meet you Viktor, I’m Erika Taylor. I’m glad Cynthia has had good things to say.” She said, smiling again. She couldn’t help but to have looked over the man at least once. He was attractive and most of all seemed to do well with his daughter. She was concerned about some of the fighting though.

“Actually, I was hoping to perhaps set up a conference with you. Of course it doesn’t have to be now, but if you could let me know the best way to get in touch, I’m afraid the school didn’t have a number.” She said. It was understandable, it was still early enough in the school year and depending on what was going on at home he may not have had time. Though she tried not to make any judgements. He didn’t seem like that kind of father. She did want to make sure everything was okay with Cynthia though.

Viktor smiled as he released Erika's hand and wrapped his arm back around Cynthia. "A conference? Of course, I think I received a letter from the school saying that parent-teacher conferences were coming up soon." He put Cynthia down next to him and reached into her backpack, grabbing out one of her notebooks and a pencil. Opening up to a blank page he wrote down his name and phone number on the piece of paper before ripping the page out and handing it over to Miss Erika. "Here is my cell phone number. I'm sorry that I haven't gotten around to giving the school my phone number. Things have been a little hectic since the move." Putting the notebook back in Cynthia's backpack he took her hand as he smiled down at her. "Ready to go home sweetie? We're gunna have meatloaf tonight."

"Ewww daddy! Meatloaf is gross!" Cynthia giggled as she looked to her teacher and waved at her. "Bye bye Miss Erika! See you tomorrow!"

Viktor smiled as she dragged him toward the car. He looked back to Erika with a smile. "Have a good evening Miss Erika. It was a pleasure to meet you."

Erika smiled and waved back at Cynthia before looking to Viktor. “It was a pleasure meeting you. I’ll make sure the school has a copy of this.” She said, holding the piece of paper. She watched them go a moment before turning to go back to her classroom. She had a few things to do an get together before she could go home and she needed to make sure she had the parent teacher conferences in her own calendar.

She smiled some to herself as she returned to her classroom. She always enjoyed watching parents and kids interact with one another but she hadn’t met many single parents. Especially single fathers. It had been sweet and she’d enjoyed the chance to meet Viktor. She did feel a little bad that she didn’t have all good news for him at the conference but it would be good to be able to talk too.

Viktor helped Candice into her carseat and strapped her in before he shut the door and got into the drivers seat. He knew that she was getting a little old for a carseat but she was still a bit small for her age and he wasn't about to take the change. Cynthia was his whole world and he wasn't about to risk her safety. Pulling away from the school he made the relatively short drive home where he parked the car in the driveway before helping Cynthia out of the car. Heading inside he told Cynthia to start her homework while he started to cook dinner.

After roughly an hour or so dinner was ready and the table was set. After saying grace the pair ate their dinner in relative silence. Cynthia was still getting use to not having her mother around and mealtimes were one of the hardest on her though Viktor did what he could to try to make it fun for her. Once Cynthia was finished with her dinner Viktor let her go watch television while he cleaned up after dinner.

Erika stayed late at the school for a couple of hours. Getting everything ready and set up for the night and the next day so she didn’t have to bring work home with her. She tried hard not to do that often, though there were times she did and she didn’t mind because it was part of her job.

Once she was home she changed into a pair of sweatpants and a fitted tank top before making herself a quick and easy meal. She had a freezer full of microwave ready meals which she knew weren’t exactly healthy for her but she didn’t always have the energy to cook a real meal.

Once she had finished eating and cleaned everything up, she glanced to the clock and saw it was still early enough to call Viktor. She hesitated as she picked up her cell phone. She kept the paper he’d given her though made sure the school had his number too. She knew she could just call him tomorrow sometime, knew that might be better, but found herself dialing his number anyway. She could get the conference for Cynthia set up and then go if he was busy. She was genuinely concerned about some of Cynthia’s outbursts. She’d seen the child be sweet and caring and the anger worried Erika a little.

She sighed, taking a seat on her couch as she listened to the phone ring, wondering if he’d even pick up. She didn’t mind if he didn’t. She would just leave a message then and hear back hopefully whenever he had time. When he did answer, she identified who she was, realizing her number would likely come up as unknown.

Viktor hd been washing dishes when his cell phone began to ring. TUrning off the water and drying off his hands he picked up his cell phone, his brows furrowing at the unidentified number. Answering the call he brought the phone to his ear. "Hello, this is Viktor." Once he heard who it was he smiled lightly. "Well hello Miss Taylor. How are you this evening?"

Erika couldn’t help but to smile. “Please, call me Erika. And I am quite well Mr. Fredrickson, thank you. I hope your evening has been pleasant?” She half said and half asked. Of course she hoped it was, and not just because he’d seemed like a kind man. “I hope I’m not intruding I’m your evening, I was hoping to get that conference scheduled though. Of course it can wait though if now isn’t a good time.” She said, stopping herself after that. She was starting to ramble she realized and knew there was no reason for it.

"I hope your evening is going well. My evening is going pretty well, we have already finished dinner and Cynthia is watching some cartoons so now if fine. And please, call me Viktor." Moving out of the kitchen he went to his office down the hall to look at his planner. "So when are you available?" He paused for a moment then rethought his statement. "Is there a day that you are less booked up that would work better for yoy for the conference?" He took a seat at his desk and opened the planner, looking over his days and when he was available.

“No, I’m pretty available Mr. Fred...Viktor. Any day after school that works for you. My schedule is flexible.” She said. She had a few good friends and things she did, but she spent most her time either at home or at the school. And at the moment didn’t have anything planned for a while. Besides she knew most parents had pretty busy schedules and wanted to make sure she could work to fit them in whenever was best for them. “If you want we can do it on Thursday or Friday.” She offered.

Viktor looked through his planner, looking to see which day would work best. "Friday would probably work better. Thurdays is a bit...hectic." Wanting to keep the conversation light he didn't bring up that Cynthias mother was due for a visit on Thursday. "Does 5pm work for you? I should have a babysitter for Cynthia by that time." He grabbed a pen as he wrote the conference in his planner, awaiting Erika to confirm the time.

“Yeah, that’s perfect. And don’t worry if you can’t get a baby sitter. I mean it is easier sometimes if the child isn’t around, but if you need her to come with you I’ll make sure there are things for her to do while we talk.” She said. She didn’t want him to stress too much about it.

Viktor smiled lightly as he penciled in the time. "Okay, so Friday at 5pm. I'll see you then and thank you so much for calling." He paused for a moment as he thought of something. "Actually, I have a question for you. We are still pretty new to the area and I have been trying to look around for nice parks and playgrounds for Cynthia to interact with other children. Do you know of any nice, clean, kid friendly places that I could take her?"

Erika was surprised but smiled. “For sure. There’s a park about a mile from the school that has a brand new playground and a fantastic field for playing on or for picnics and stuff. It has a trail that goes into a wooded area too that’s pretty nice. Um I guess it depends on where you live if that’s not close enough.” She said

"That sound amazing and I'm sure that Cynthia will love it." Viktor smiled as he rose from his desk to return to the kitchen. "We live about fifteen minutes or so from the school so it won't be too far. Thank you for the information Erika. I really appreciate it." He looked down to the sink of dishes that still needed to be washed. "Well I have to go, I have a few things to do before I get Cynthia showered and ready for bed. It was nice talking to you and I'll see you on Friday. Hope you have a pleasant evening."

Erika smiled some. “Thank you, I’ll see you Friday, have a good evening as well Viktor.” She said. She hesitated a moment but since that had been the end of the conversation she hung up. She sighed some and looked around her living room. She had nothing else to do, everything was set for the next day. So she headed to bed to read a while before turning in for an early night.

Viktor hung up the phone and set it down on the kitchen table before returning to the sink to finish washing the dishes. Once complete he got Cynthia showered and ready for bed before reading a story to help her fall asleep. When she had fallen asleep he put the book aside, kissed her forehead then retired to his room where he showered and changed into a pair of pajama pants before laying in bed. He watched television for a little bit before falling asleep.

The next few days seemed to go by quickly and before they knew it Friday was upon them. Cynthia was in a bit of mood Friday since she had seen her mother the night before and the visit had been rather tense. After Vijtor picked her up he dropped her off at the babysitters house before making his way back to the school for the parent teacher conference. He was about 15 minutes early but made his way to the classroom, knocking on the door gently.

Erika looked up in surprise at the sound of the knock but then smiled a little when she saw Viktor. She didn’t mind that he was early, she had just been going over some paper work. She was glad they were having the meeting today though. Cynthia has seemed to have a hard time and she was admittedly a little worried for the child.

“Viktor. How good to see you. Please, have a seat.” She said, gesturing to the adult sized chairs she had found for him to use. “You’re a little early but we can get started if you like?” She offered to him. “I guess before I start on my stuff, are there any questions you have for me to start off with?” She asked kindly.

Viktor entered the classroom and took the offered seat in front of her desk. He thought for a moment and nodded lightly. "Yes actually I do. I was wondering if you noticed if Cynthia is making any friends. When she comes home she will talk about you but other than that she hasn't brought anything up about any other children and it has me a little concerned. I understand that we are new to the area but does it take a long time for children to make friends?" He leaned forward a little, obviously concerned and curious as to what Erika had to say.
